Description of the walk

Coming from the D6 and after passing through the hamlet of Les Maires-d’Avaux in Saint-Bresson, take the road on the left at the top of the hill, after the sign for Les Granges-du-Bois.

Park on the left at the start of a path before the farm shed.

(S/E) Follow this path for about a hundred metres as it enters the forest, then turn right (at the junction of the circular path).

(1) You will very quickly reach the site of the Pierre du Mouton. This large stone, 80 centimetres high, bears numerous inscriptions and gouges that suggest potential sacrifices of rams and sheep. Continue straight along the path until, after a few damp patches, you reach the Pierre la Miche.

(2) This stone, lying flat on the ground, bears a few inscriptions as well as marks which, according to legend, are thought to be the devil’s footprint.
Take the path immediately to the left, then left again 500 m further on. Follow the forest track until you reach a small tarmac road. Turn left and head towards Étang Sommepey.

(3) Continue along the road to pass above Étang Tresurier.

(4) Leave the road at the next bend and take a forest track for 200 m. Head up to the left and reach the junction of the circular route. Turn right to the car park (S/E).

Notes

You can also follow this route from the road between Raddon-et-Chapendu and Fougerolles, starting from the signposts indicating these sites.

This circular loop is part of a series of walks that I have described or am currently describing, focusing on the megaliths of Franche-Comté. You can find them in my walks under my username.

Worth a visit

Luxeuil-les-Bains, a spa town.
The picturesque little village of Saint-Bresson, the only mountain commune in Franche-Comté.
The region of a thousand lakes.

These megaliths are listed in Roger Maudhuy’s book: Mégalithes de la Franche-Comté.

A short, easy walk in a very peaceful area, accessible by car via a network of narrow lanes.

Hello, Tricotte

To quote Wikipedia, for example

The term ‘megalithic’ is used in a very general sense and refers to a wide variety of archaeological sites.

This is certainly the case with these stones, which, although small in size, bear numerous inscriptions.

As for the signposting, neither I nor Visorando have any control over it. The description is intended to compensate for the lack or absence of signposting. Moreover, I do not mention it in the description.

A pleasant walk through the woods, ideal in summer – very easy – but very poorly signposted

Beautiful scenery with a few ponds
the rocks described as megaliths look more like glacial boulders and bear no resemblance to menhirs or dolmens...

A lovely walk, to which we added the route around the Rémoulure pond – a beautiful stroll lined with stones, fir trees and ponds.
