The Raddon Valley and its resources in Saint-Bresson

This eight-kilometre route will introduce you to all the attractions of the Saint-Bresson valley through nine information panels covering the themes of geology, water, wood and farms of yesteryear.
After a stretch along a small tarmac road, you’ll walk along the hillside on either side of the valley to reach a plateau dotted with ponds.

Description of the walk

Route marked with green rings and green stones on a white background.

Parking available in front of the church in Saint-Bresson (D136).

(S/E) From the car park, head left until you reach the junction at the bridge over the Raddon. Turn right towards Chapelle Saint-Brice, following the village road. It runs alongside the river (which gives its name to the village further downstream). Follow the river without ever crossing it. On your left, about 200 m from the start, is the neo-Gothic chapel of Saint-Brice (patron saint of the commune of Saint-Bresson). Continue to the next Fork in the road.

(1) At the Fork in the road, turn left, then right at the next junction. Shortly after the last houses, as the road approaches Le Raddon, a shaded path climbs to the right towards La Noz du Pin, then La Broche.

(2) Take this path towards the forest. At the top, at a place called La Broche, you can see a magnificent sequoia on the left, just before the house. Take the path that descends opposite and joins a tarmac road at a place called Le Pradin.

(3) Cross the road and follow the path leading uphill opposite. You’ll walk along a dirt track on a ledge from which you can see the valley. At the end of the track, you’ll come to a tarmac road.

(4) Take the road on the left as you head downhill to reach Les Maires d’Avaux. Cross the bridge over the Raddon to reach the D136.

(5) Cross the road – take care – and head up the stone path opposite through the woods towards the Muse farm. You’ll reach the Grandes Fouillies plateau and walk alongside a pond.

(6) Shortly after the Étang des Grandes Fouillies, at the next crossroads, turn sharply left and head back down towards Saint-Bresson (partly through pastureland, then partly through woodland), passing the Crèpeloup fountain. When you reach the tarmac road, turn right to reach the village centre and the church car park (S/E).

A lovely, informative walk, alternating between paths through woodland or meadows and tarmac roads. Apart from the B-road near the car park, which can be dangerous on the way back, the other roads are quiet.
There is a slight lack of signposting at point 6, where there has been roadworks and the signpost is completely broken.
Thanks to the author for this excellent description, as well as to everyone involved: the trail markers and information boards.
