Parking is available at the Maison de Payrac.
(S/E) From the car park, take the path opposite. You will see a thatched hut on your left, which you can visit. When you reach the first crossroads, turn left.
Turn left. You will discover the Géodrome Michel Demange, which presents the different types of stones found in the region. Follow the path to the drystone shelter (an old shepherd's hut).
(2) Take the road on the right. Continue for 1 km until you reach the watering hole and the handmade table.
(3) Turn left until you reach the road, cross it and continue along the track opposite. After 500 metres, go down the road after a few steps and follow it to the right until you reach another drystone shelter.
(4) Leave the road and follow the grassy path on the left (not shown on the IGN map). At the cross at the top, turn left to find the path marked by dry stone walls.
You will arrive at a reconstruction of a window that is actually located in the forest opposite and is called "la Fenêtre du Loup" (the Wolf's Window). Follow the track to another marker consisting of two stones, which is also a reconstruction of a regional monument called "Pierre sur Autre" (Stone on Stone), used to mark the boundary between three communes. A little further on, an upright stone completes this series.
Continue along the trail down to the road. Cross the road at the bend and take the path that climbs up opposite. You will pass a cairn and rejoin the upper road. Continue left until you reach the next cairn.
(5) Leave the road and climb the very steep track on the right to return to the crossroads you passed on the way up.
(2) Cross the road and continue right along the path marked "la bretelle du chasseur" (the hunter's ramp) by a cairn. At the wooden hide, turn right. You will walk along a path discovering an impressive collection of traps that were once used in the countryside. You will arrive at the foot of the Géodrome Michel Demange.
Take the large track to the left and pass in front of an iron charcoal kiln. You will then arrive at a crossroads where you will see a reconstruction of an iron ore furnace, a charcoal kiln and a watering trough.
(6) Head right towards the "Maison de Payrac". When you reach this old farmhouse, stop to visit and rest. Cross the courtyard, head right and take the small path into the woods after the barbecue. You will arrive at the end of the car park.
(7) Head left at the bottom of the car park towards the peat bog, cross over it and continue on the path that takes you to the top of Laouzeta. You will discover the menhir of the same name and enjoy a magnificent view of Lake Laouzas. Looking straight ahead, you will see the stone monuments you passed earlier.
Continue along the path that leads to the road, turn right and you will arrive at your starting point (S/E).
Easy hike, starting from Payrac, with the first part shaded until you reach a spring.
