Park in the village of Falaën, near the church
(S/E). Opposite the church, take the small road that runs alongside it on the right, Rue du Château-Ferme. Note the imposing castle farm on the right. Leave the village and you will come to an isolated chapel in the fields.
(1) Take the small road on the left that winds through the countryside before descending to the hamlet of Flun. Continue to the bridge over the Flavion, also known as the Floyon.
(2) Immediately afterwards, turn left onto the dirt track that leads into the Flavion valley. Pass a pumping station, then the water machine, which is an excellent picnic spot. A little further on, the track becomes a small path that climbs up to a road.
(3) Go up this road on the right to its end, which is a T-junction. Turn left onto another small road, Rue de Montaigle. You will arrive at a large farm.
(4) Just before the farm, at a huge hay barn, take a dirt track that passes to the left of the farm. Descend towards the Flavion valley and you will come to a path. This path runs alongside impressive limestone cliffs and is parallel to a wider track. Where the path is closed off, join the wider track and follow it to the right, continuing in roughly the same direction. You will come to a meadow. Enter through a metal gate and cross the meadow, staying close to the Flavion. Leave the meadow at the far end through a turnstile. Caution! This area can be very muddy during or after a period of rain. Turn left onto the dirt track.
(5) You will soon arrive at the entrance to the Montaigle ruins.
N.B. If you do not wish to visit the site, continue straight ahead. However, a visit (for a fee) is highly recommended and is included in the mileage of the route.
After visiting the ruins, either return via the same route you came up or take a small path behind the ruins, which also leads back to the visitor centre.
(5) Continue along the small road on the right to reach the bridge over the Molignée and the Molignée Valley road.
(6) Cross this fairly busy road carefully, follow it to the right for a few metres, and climb up a fairly steep small path on the left. When you reach the hamlet of Foy, turn left, then quickly right and right again to leave the hamlet. A hundred metres further on, go straight ahead at a small crossroads and continue for another hundred metres.
(7) Turn left onto a well-marked and signposted dirt track. Follow it to the end, ignoring a path that descends to the left. At the small road, turn left for fifty metres, until after the bend.
(8) Take a dirt track on the right at an acute angle (signpost). Enter a wood and shortly afterwards, don't miss a small picturesque path on the left. Reach the top of the limestone grasslands of the Montagne de Sosoye Nature Reserve. A bench (or even better, the nearby rock) offers a beautiful view of the village of Sosoye, an excellent place for a picnic. Continue past the bench, ignore a path on the right and descend the increasingly steep path to a metal gate.
(9) Do not take the marked path on the left, but go right and cross the railway tracks. Be careful! The tracks are sometimes used by draisines.
Turn left onto the Ravel and then leave it via a staircase immediately after the bridge that crosses the road leading to the village of Sosoye. At the bottom, take the road on the left, away from the village of Sosoye.
(10) Take thefirst street on the left going uphill. Continue along this winding road for a long time until you reach the plateau. Ignore all side roads and paths. Continue straight ahead until you reach a short, slightly steeper descent alongside a large house. You will reach a larger road.
(11) Turn left and you will soon arrive at the car park of Falaën Church (S/E).
