On the D983, about 1.5km north of Col de Guéry, park in the small car park near the intersection between the D27 and the D983.
(S/E) Head towards thePR®® sign, then follow the yellow markings (which you will follow to the hamlet of Cros Bas). Go down the stairs to the viewpoint, then turn right and continue down another set of steps. Be careful, when the ground is wet, which is often the case in these woods, the logs lining the steps are very slippery.
(1) At the bottom, opposite the red sign saying "Danger, risk of falling" prohibiting access opposite, is the start of our circular path. Turn left to follow a fairly difficult path through the undergrowth, which is sometimes steeply downhill. Be careful! There are many paths and false trails criss-crossing these woods, so follow the yellow markings carefully. Cross a road and continue straight ahead, along a stream. Further on, cross the same road at the water source and continue straight ahead.
(2) You will see two signs, "Route Roche Tuillière" and "Route Roches Tuilière et Sanadoire" at a crossroads. Take the footbridge on your left over the Ruisseau de Fontsalade. Go up to a road, cross it and continue climbing opposite. Further on, the path descends slightly and leads to a wider path.
(3) Follow it to the right. You will arrive at the hamlet of La Malvialle (a beautiful house with a slate roof, probably made from stone once quarried at Roche Tuilière). Follow the grassy path on the far right. Further on, a fence will force you to climb a ladder on the right-hand side of the path. Further on, ignore a path starting on the left, then go around a meadow on the right. Shortly afterwards, you will find another stepladder on the right, but as there is no longer a fence, you do not have to climb over it. However, you will not be able to avoid the stepladder further on, which blocks the path.
(4) You will come to a wider path. Follow it to the right. Further on, the path begins to descend and leads to a crossroads where tree trunks from a recently deforested plot are piled up.
Ignore the path on the left and the path opposite (yellow cross some distance away as there are no longer any trees in the vicinity) and continue to the right. You will find a yellow marker shortly afterwards. When the path turns right, follow the yellow marker by taking a small path on the left. At first, this path is a little overgrown with brambles, but it becomes clearer as you enter the undergrowth. You will come to a road.
(5) Turn right, then immediately take a road on the left that descends towards Cros Bas. In the hamlet, ignore the yellow markings that lead off to the left and follow the road up to the higher road, continuing to the left. Further on, cross Cros Haut, which consists of a few houses on the right, one of which has lots of cats (we counted at least eleven) and a beautiful fountain on its left gable, on the chicken coop side.
(6) Shortly after the last house on the left, leave the road and turn onto a wide path on the left. Continue until you cross a stream. This is a pleasant place to take a break. Behind you, you will see the Roche Tuilière and its prismatic columns arranged in clusters. Note the scree of the Roche Sanadoire opposite you, and at the top of this impressive rock, strata going in all directions, signs of a turbulent geological life. Look for yellow markings and signs for the "Route Roche Tuillière (Aller et Retour)" which you should ignore.
(7) Instead, follow the green markings and head north, ignoring the paths on the right. Further on, at an intersection with a path coming from the left, signs indicate the "Route Roche Tuillière" and "Route Roche Tuilière et Sanadoire". Continue straight ahead, still following the green markings.
(8) Immediately afterwards, a yellow sign invites you to turn right. Ignore it and continue left, following the green signs. The wide path offers beautiful unobstructed views. Turn around from time to time to enjoy magnificent views of the Roches Tuilière and Sanadoire, and the valley of the Ruisseau de Fontsalade.
(9) At the hamlet of Douharesse, follow the road as it curves sharply to the right. It joins the D27 at a picnic area.
(10) Leave the green markings, which continue opposite, and follow the D27 to the right for about 100 metres. Turn onto the first road on the right, towards the Montagne du Cros farm. At the farm, continue along the path that runs to the right of the buildings. Please note that this is a summer grazing area: stay on the path and keep your dogs on a lead if you have any. From this path, you can once again enjoy beautiful views of the rocks that give this route its name.
(11) Further on, at the edge of the forest, take note of a footbridge over a stream on your left and the path that continues beyond it. You will also find yellow markings, which you should follow from now until the end. The path winds its way back up through the undergrowth and you will soon find yourself at the bottom of the steps you took at the start of the route.
(1) Climb back up to the viewpoint, where the view will undoubtedly seem less impressive than on the way up, compared to all the beautiful views you will have enjoyed on this route. Climb a few more steps to return to the car park (S/E).
