Start from Saint-Blaise-la-Roche station (TER line between Strasbourg and Saint-Dié-des-Vosges). Parking available.
(S/E) Head south-west along Rue Principale until you reach the first junction.
(1) Turn slightly left and follow the D1420 towards the village centre. You’ll arrive at the foot of the church.
(2) Cross the Route de Colroy on the left-hand side and continue along the D1420. Take the first left onto Rue de l’Usine (marked with a Yellow Cross).
(3) After about a hundred metres, take a path on the right. Head uphill and enter the forest. Join a road and follow it to the left for about a hundred metres.
(4) Turn right again onto a path and continue uphill, still following the Yellow Cross signposts. Keep heading south-south-west until you reach a crossroads at a place called Les Charasses (car park).
(5) Carry on straight ahead and follow a path marked with Yellow Cross signs. At the Fork in the road that appears shortly afterwards, turn slightly left (Yellow Cross signs). You’ll soon reach a crossroads.
(6) Follow the Chemin de l’Alhan straight ahead and uphill (marked with a Yellow Cross). Pass by the Petit Alhan. Then carry on straight ahead until you reach the crossroads at the foot of the Grand Alhan.
(7) Ignore a path coming from the right and continue straight on until you reach the next junction with houses.
(8) Turn right and follow the Blue Triangle markings. Pass at the foot of the Grand Alhan. You will then reach a crossroads.
(9) Carry on to your left, following the path marked with Blue Triangles. Head downhill, gently at first, then more steeply.
(10) You’ll come out onto the D50; follow it to the right (Yellow Rectangle markings). Pass under the railway bridge and carry on straight ahead to the church at Bourg-Bruche.
(11) Cross the D1420 and follow the Yellow Rectangle markings opposite.
(12) At the T-junction, turn right onto a small road (Route des Saulxures). Carry on straight ahead at the various junctions and follow the Yellow Rectangle signposts.
(13) When the road bends to the left, leave it and continue straight on along a track (Yellow Rectangle).
(14) When you reach the Route Forestière de Grand Roué, follow it to the left. Take a sharp left along this road and head west. Take a hairpin bend to the right and cross a stream. Pass through a clearing.
(15) Shortly afterwards, take a path branching off to the left. Stay parallel to the road and follow the Yellow Rectangle markings.
(16) At a junction, head left onto Chemin de la Procession. Ignore the paths branching off to the right.
(17) At a fork in the road, take the right-hand branch. At the next junction, turn right and head downhill to the church at Saulxures.
(18) Then turn left. Next, turn right twice, walk past the town hall and follow the Red Cross signposting. Ignore a small alleyway on the right.
(19) You’ll come out onto Rue Principale (D192); follow it to the left towards Schirmeck and cross a stream.
(20) Cross the D424 (cross) with care and continue straight on, following the Red Cross signposts. Immediately ignore a turn-off on the right and continue along a path. Ignore the paths leading off to the left and right, as well as the access to a chapel.
(21) You’ll come out onto the D350; follow it to the right.
(22) Leave the road to the left and walk alongside the Étang du Breux on your right. Follow the signposts to the D1420.
(23) Turn left and, just before the railway bridge, take a path on the left. Walk along the railway embankment as far as the recycling centre. Then go right under the bridge and rejoin the D1420.
(1) Turn left and you’ll soon reach Saint-Blaise-la-Roche station (S/E).
. Duration, for us (2): 5 hours with a total of 25 minutes’ breaks. And so? Very peaceful! We only came across one other couple of walkers. What’s more, some of the paths are overgrown with grass, which makes them even more pleasant and attractive; this walk must not be very popular. Thank you.
