Water seeps at Les Ressuintes

This very wet area drains water from the Senonches Forest. There are numerous streams and ponds. The route starts by following the Meuvette valley. The stream originates in the nearby private woods and flows through the Haron and Rouge ponds.
After passing through a cultivated area, the return journey is along small roads. This walk is best done in winter, when the nearby forest paths are difficult to navigate.
The commune is backed by private woods and bordered to the west by the walls of the park of the former château of the Marquis de La Borde, which became the Citroën Test Centre in the 20th century.
Between the park and the forest, old farmhouses have been converted into attractive second homes, well maintained and decorated with flowers in summer.
The village has a church which, since the 12th century, has undergone many vicissitudes.
At the rear, the communal wash house has been restored, and a public space welcomes walkers who wish to take a moment's rest.

Description of the walk

Les Ressuintes, south-east of La Ferté-Vidame, accessed via the D941, then the D146 to Étang d'Haron.
Parking in front of the town hall, near the church (D318.3).

No signposts

(S/E) With your back to the church, follow Rue du Perche to leave the village. At the crossroads, with the boules court on your left, turn right, cross a bridge (pond on your left), then turn right again onto Rue de l'Aulnay. Follow the trees, which sometimes hide the Étang d'Haron. Pass in front of the farm, which is partly in ruins, and arrive at the crossroads with the D941.

(1) Turn right and walk along the Étang d'Haron dyke. Be careful: walk on the side of the pond, on the wide shoulder. At the end of the dyke, cross carefully and take the D318, Rue de l'Ancienne Gare, on the left. Follow this road until you reach the entrance to the path on the left of a house, at the end of a right-hand bend.

(2) Leave the road and follow this path, which passes through a tunnel under the embankment of the old La Loupe - Verneuil-sur-Avre railway line. It leads to the entrance to La Puisaye (children's playground, boules court, picnic tables). Continue to the church, opposite the war memorial and the town hall.

Yellow and red markings

(3) Leave the church of La Puisaye on your right. Turn left (wash house) and do not cross the bridge. Immediately turn right onto the street that runs alongside the town hall and schools (picnic tables on the banks of the Meuvette, fitness trail crossing the river on a footbridge). On leaving La Puisaye, near the equestrian centre, continue straight ahead. Walk along the Étang de Rouge lake to Le Mineray at the T-junction. Do not leave the road, as the banks of the lake are off-limits for walking or picnicking and are reserved for fishermen.

Yellow and red + yellow markings

(4) Turn left onto the pond's dyke and continue to the junction with the D146.

(5) Follow the D146 to the left until the left-hand bend, then turn right onto the access road to the Brosse farm. Before the farm, leave the tarmac road and follow the grassy path. Opposite, you will see the Chêne aux Dames farm, which the route will pass in front of. The markings on the path between the fields are difficult to maintain. The path first turns at a right angle to the left, passing in front of a few trees that have been spared for the moment. Continue between the fields, paying attention to the start of the path on the right leading to Chêne aux Dames.

(6) Turn right towards Chêne aux Dames. Halfway along, cross the Ruisseau des Denteronds stream and, after about 250 metres, you will reach the Chêne aux Dames farm. Turn left, walk alongside the farm buildings, then the hedge. At the corner of this hedge, continue straight ahead towards a small wood.

No signposts

(7) Continue along this path, which crosses the hamlet of Les Salandières and leads to the D941. Cross carefully at the pedestrian crossing and follow the hard shoulder on the left until you reach the junction with the D15.

Yellow markings

(8) Turn right and follow the D15 carefully, along the wall, until you reach the junction with the road towards La Floudière.

(9) Turn left towards La Floudière, join the D318.4 and follow it on the left until you reach the Bêchetière crossroads (stop sign).

(10) Turn right towards La Pommarié and arrive at Esplanade André Robin.

(11) Follow Rue de la Pommarié until you reach the crossroads at the edge of the woods, at the entrance to Allée du Maupas.

No signposts

(12) Turn left onto the road at the edge of the private woods. Pass in front of the entrance to the Sauveloup estate.

(13) Continue straight ahead, pass the foot of the water tower, and arrive at the crossroads at the entrance to La Boufferie.

(14) Turn right, follow the road, cross the hamlet, then turn left until you reach the large farm at the entrance to Les Ressuintes.

(15) Turn right, pass in front of the church and the wash house behind it, and arrive at the town hall (S/E).

Notes

Wear good waterproof shoes, as the paths through the fields can be muddy.
In spring, the grass on the paths is not cut immediately, due to the ground nesting of certain bird species, the need to wait for the natural regeneration of grasses, and in general for the preservation of biodiversity.
Exercise caution during hunting season. Follow the recommendations given by hunters.

Worth a visit

On the path:

Notre-Dame des Ressuintes Church:
A place of worship linked to water seems to have been established in ancient times near the spring that still feeds the wash house behind the church today. Haimon des Ressuintes, lord of the manor, donated a first church to the Abbey of Saint-Père de Chartres in 1109 when he became a priest. Probably made of wood, it was then rebuilt in stone in the Romanesque style. Traces of this can be seen in the buttresses and the frames of the openings. The bell tower dates from the 17th century.

Church of La Puisaye.

Étang de Rouge.
