The Champs Élysées of the Perche

This short loop in the Bois de la Saucelle, near Puisaye, is mainly woodland. It confirms the toponymic meaning of the name Puisaye, which refers to a wetland area.
Through private woods, the circuit follows wide avenues, including the Ligne Jacob, whose length, width and majesty could justify the mischievously pretentious name of "Champs Élysées du Perche".
However, don't expect to find shops and noisy café terraces here. All you will hear is birdsong. Enjoy the peace and quiet of this unspoilt, authentic natural environment, exploring it on tiptoe so as not to disturb the many animals that you are sure to glimpse if you are discreet.
Avoid this route on hunting days. Danger!

Description of the walk

La Barberie commune de la Puisaye: parking on the side of the D155 road, near the entrance to Impasse de la Couée.

(S/E) No signposts at the start. With your back to the car park, turn left and leave the hamlet via the D155 towards La Framboisière. At the last house, take the path on the right that leads to the property. At the junction with the D318.1, continue straight ahead on the road between the houses until you reach a right-hand bend in La Villeneuve.

(1) After the bend, take the first path on the left that runs alongside houses. It soon enters the woods and continues until it meets the Ligne Jacob.

(2) Turn left and follow the yellow and red markings of the GRP® Vallées de la Blaise et de l'Avre. Continue straight ahead until you reach the junction with the Ligne des Trois Pierres.

(3) Leave the yellow and red markings and take the wide stony lane on the left (yellow markings) of the Ligne des Trois Pierres. Cross the D155. Continue straight ahead for about 300 m to find the Ligne des Bretons.

(4) Turn left, still following the yellow markings. Cross the Ligne d'Orléans again, then cross the Greslou stream. Continue straight ahead until you leave the woods, then walk between a hedge and a field until you reach a T-junction with a path.

(5) Leave the yellow markings and turn left. There are no more markings until you reach your destination. Follow this path to the D155. Follow it on the left until you reach the crossroads with Impasse de la Couée and you will find the Barberie car park (S/E).
