Description of the walk

Start the Cascades circular route at Valmorel Station, on the forest track behind the tennis courts in the hamlet of Le Mottet, at an altitude of 1,400 metres.

(S/E) Follow the track southwards. Just before crossing the Morel, leave the track and continue to the right, following the river on your left. Join the track and follow it to the right for a few dozen metres until you reach a hairpin bend to the right.

(1) Leave the track and take a path on the left that starts in the forest. Cross the Planchamp stream and reach a footbridge.

(2) Take the footbridge to cross the Morel. Go uphill and, at an intersection, turn right, pass a chalet and join a track. Be careful, mountain bikes may be passing.

(3) Follow the track to the right and pass the start of the Prarion ski lift. Immediately afterwards, take a path on the left. The path climbs and winds through a half-forest, half-alpine pasture environment, parallel to the ski lift line.

(4) After a short climb up some steps, continue south-west on a hillside path. You will reach a fork near the Morel waterfall.

(5) Turn left and walk past the foot of the waterfall. A little further on, you will reach the Péchet waterfall.

(6) Continue along the path and cross a track. Continue through the scrubland, passing under the Morel chairlift line and then the Morel ski lift line. Climb the steep switchbacks to reach a track. Follow the track to the right until you reach the upper station of the Altispace chairlift.

(7) Begin a steep descent on the right, keeping the chairlift line on your left. Descend the path known as the "51 turns" and rejoin the Planchamp stream footbridge you passed on the way up.

(2) Turn right and cross the forest again to return to the starting point (S/E).

Walk starting from Valmorel, nothing special to report, we are in the mountains so there is a bit of elevation gain. The waterfalls are nice, even if at the end of July the flow is not extraordinary. The return trip is not very interesting apart from the view of the Valmorel valley, no wildlife and almost no flora. It is still a good opportunity to walk in the mountains.

A pleasant, easy hike, completed in slightly less time than indicated.
We ate at the Les Voiles restaurant at point 7.
It was a beautiful day.

Very nice route. After winter, to get back into shape. Just the top of the route: next to the mountain restaurant: construction work still to be finished, piles of construction debris left behind in a hurry. The Valmorel resort is deplorable. Otherwise, very beautiful over the valley. I recommend it.

Hello,
I went hiking this spring. The station is empty and the bikes aren't there yet, which is very pleasant. The waterfalls are superb, full of energy at this time of year.
However, the arrival point at Planchamp is completely devastated. It's the highest point of the hike and it's a disaster. There's nothing but earth for several metres, there's no vegetation left, it's very sad.
As for the hike itself, it is described quite well in your information sheet. On the ground, there are very few signs, so it is best to take a GPX route. Be careful, as from Prariond, the path is difficult to find. You have to go to the Saint-Roch observatory to find it.
It took me 4 hours and 15 minutes to complete the entire route, even though I'm a good walker. This is close to the time suggested by the official Valmorel website, which indicates 4 hours and 30 minutes rather than the time on your website: https://www.valmorel.com/boucle-des-casc...
Thank you for publishing the hike and best wishes for the future.

Nice hike. Beautiful waterfall despite the low water level. Great descent with 51 bends. I didn't count them. Not too steep.

Start of a somewhat physically demanding walk, especially when it is very hot.
