Description of the walk

Access: head to the Leroy-Merlin roundabout in Valence, then turn right onto the road leading to the SPA animal shelter. Then take the first right (Chemin du Champ du Pont), passing a car park on the left (which can serve as a fallback if there is no space in the next car park). Go under the Pont des Lones and park immediately afterwards in car park no. 6 at L’Épervière.

(S/E) From the car park, with your back to the bridge, head left onto the cycle path. Ignore the paths on the left and cross the footbridge. Continue to the right, following the Via Rhôna nos. 2 and 47. Pass a beached wreck, the harbour entrance and then the Harbour Master’s Office to reach a junction.

(1) Turn left towards the jetty car park and walk alongside it. At the end, follow the cycle path branching off to the right (ignore the path on the right through the trees, which will be the return route). Walk alongside the Rhône with the Parc de l’Épervière on your right until you reach a small car park.

(2) Continue straight on along the path which runs close to the motorway, following it for a short while below on a metal footbridge. At the end of the footbridge, you’ll reach a tunnel under the A7.

(3) Turn back along the same path to the small car park at the entrance to Parc de l’Épervière.

(2) Cross the car park to enter the park. Follow the gravel path on the right which runs alongside the cycle path. Pass successively by the arboretum, the organic orchard and the children’s playground before coming out onto the cycle path at the jetty car park. Turn left along the same path until you reach the junction just before the public toilets.

(1) Turn right towards the Harbour Master’s Office and continue to the barrier at the harbour entrance. Turn left towards a former football stadium, then immediately right to walk alongside it on a footpath. This path follows the cycle path and returns to the footbridge at the start. Turn left to return to the car park (S/E).

A lovely little family walk along the River Rhône. Épervière Park has a few play areas for children, a fitness zone and cycle routes, making it a great spot for a quick break halfway through the walk.

No difficulty at all, very easy. It’s also a good starting point for other walks, with the option to extend the route as far as Jouvet Park.

The car park is very small, so you need to arrive early to get a space. There are other car parks all along the route, so feel free to carry on and you can start the circular route from a different spot

Thank you for introducing us to such a lovely walk; we’ll definitely be doing it again with our granddaughters.
