Circular route along the banks of the Rhône and the Soyons ridges

Park in the Intermarché car park in Soyons.

(S/E) Cross the car park to reach Chemin du Ruisseau, then turn left onto Rue Gustave Eiffel. You will reach a four-way crossroads.

(1) Continue straight ahead into the Freydières neighbourhood, then turn right onto Chemin de Provence until you reach the Voie Verte or Via Rhôna crossroads.

(2) Take this path opposite and follow the right bank of the Rhône until you reach a designated area at the entrance to Soyons.

(3) Leave the Via Rhôna, turn right, walk along the football stadium and then find a small tunnel.

(4) Go through it on the right to pass under the railway line. At the exit, take the stairs, but be careful as they lead directly onto the N86. Cross at the pedestrian crossing, but be very careful when doing so, then continue uphill on Chemin du Vivier, which branches off to the left.

(5) At the Grottes de Soyons crossroads, turn left and, after about 300 steps, you will come to a fork. Go left, almost horizontally, and continue to the next fork, about ten metres after a metal staircase on the left (access to the Grotte Renard).

(6) Continue climbing to the right and reach the plateau. Ignore a faint path on the left and, at the next fork, climb to the left until you reach the Serre de Guercy viewpoint. Then continue to the Serre d'Aurouze crossroads.

(7) Turn right, then left at the next crossroads to reach a new four-way crossroads at the Jaulan marker.

(8) Take the road on the right, then leave it at^{the first} bend and continue straight ahead along the path. Walk along the fields, then the edge of the woods to reach the^GR®®42at the Fondasses crossroads.

(9) Take it to the right and now follow the white and red markings. At the hamlet of Saint-Christol, you can leave the^GR®® on the right to reach a pleasant picnic area.

(10) Return to the^GR® on the left and turn right. Cross a road at the hamlet of Pinet, where you will also find another pleasant picnic area.

(11) Continue on the^GR®® to the crossroads located about a hundred metres from the Termes roundabout.

(12) Leave the^GR®® here by turning right, then turn left onto Chemin des Côtes and walk for about 300 m. Turn left onto the slightly uphill path along the edge of the fields and reach the edge of the woods.

(13) Turn right onto the small path to enter and descend into the forest. Continue until you reach a bend in the Chemin de la Côte road.

(14) Turn left onto this road, taking care to watch out for traffic. For safety reasons, it is best to walk in the gutter here. Continue along Chemin des Hautes Freydières until you reach a roundabout.
(15) Go around the roundabout on the right and follow Impasse des Hautes Frédières, which continues under the railway line. Then take Impasse de l'Île and you will return to the original crossroads.

(1) Turn left and retrace your steps to return to the Intermarché car park in Soyons (S/E).

No particular difficulties except for the slightly steep climb towards Serre de Quercy.

(6) Option to visit the Soyons Caves.
Between (10) and (11) there are numerous pleasant spots to stop for a break or picnic.
