Description of the walk

(S/E) From the Castéra-Verduzan Tourist Office, turn left onto the D930, then take the first right towards the lakeside campsite. Walk alongside the campsite, then turn right.

(1) Then take the second street on the left. Pass the black pig farm and continue along this small road to Old Castéra.

(2) A return trip to the Fontaine de Coulom is possible. To do this, after the first house in the hamlet, turn left, go round the church on the right and continue along the path. At the next junction, turn right and, further on, ignore the path on the left.

(3) Fontaine de Coulom. Return to Vieux Castéra via the same route as on the way out.

(2) Turn left to cross the rest of the hamlet, then head back down towards the D930. Cross the road and continue straight ahead towards Bonas.

(4) Once you have crossed the stream (the Auloue), turn right and follow it until you reach the school.

(5) Return to the D930 behind the casino, then turn off to find, about 300 metres further on, the Tourist Office on your left (S/E).

Worth a visit

The path to the Fontaine de Coulom is lovely, but the fountain itself is less impressive.

A lovely walk! It follows the road for a few hundred metres, but there’s hardly any traffic so it’s no problem. Vieux-Castéra is absolutely charming. The descent towards the fountain is brilliant; if it weren’t for the odd car passing below, you’d feel as though you’d wandered far away from civilisation! It’s a great idea to have signs identifying some of the plants along the way down. I’m really glad I took this route.
I should point out that there are plenty of parking spaces available around the Tourist Office

My first walk with Visiorando. I wasn’t disappointed. I’ve discovered some hidden gems right on my doorstep. It was easy and not at all tiring, and the weather was lovely.

A lovely walk through the hillsides above Castera, where you can explore the charming hamlet of Old Castera. The short detour to the fountain path is well worth a look (panoramic views and information boards on the most interesting plant species), but I recommend turning back before starting the descent and returning to the original route, as the sunken path leading down is also very pretty.
