The Vexin region around Montjavoult

An easy walk along paths that cross the countryside between fields and woods. Very pleasant passages through the undergrowth. The walk offers beautiful views of the Vexin, which is hilly in this area.

Description of the walk

Park on Rue de la Mairie, near the church.

(S/E) Return to the church square, go around the small roundabout and turn right down Rue des Bauves.

(1) At the start of a left-hand bend, take the path that runs straight ahead along a wooded area. Pass by the cemetery and cross another path in the woods that comes from the right. Continue to the left, leave the woods and head towards the small road that leads to Parnes (D509).

(2) Walk a few dozen metres to the left, then turn sharply left onto the path that leads to a wood. Cross the wood and continue almost straight ahead until you reach a small, quiet road north of Valécourt.

(3) Turn left to follow this road, walk alongside a small wood and reach the junction with the GR®125.

(4) Follow the path that branches off to the right, following the red and white markings, towards Montagny-en-Vexin, which is visible in the distance. Follow it for about 500 metres until you reach the junction with a wide path that leads to a wooded area.

(5) Take this path on the left and leave the GR®. After crossing the fields, the path climbs towards the woods and joins another small road.

(6) Cross and continue on the path that is slightly offset to the right, at the edge of the woods. This path leads towards the hamlet of Beaugrenier. Follow it until you reach the junction with another path that branches off to the left.

(7) Take this path, which climbs towards the hamlet of Le Vouast and is bordered for a while by a small embankment. The path becomes asphalted and then joins a small square with a wooden kiosk, which you follow, veering to the right.

(8) A little further on, turn left into Rue du Chemin Vert. This street leads to another small road that goes to Montjavoult and is called Grande Rue. Turn left and continue to the star-shaped junction after the first houses.

(9) Turn right onto Rue d'Enfer, which leads to the church square. All you have to do now is turn right again to return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

The paths are easy to walk on, but are often rutted by tractors. Good footwear is therefore recommended. Some areas may be a little muddy after the autumn and spring rains.

Worth a visit

At the bottom of Rue Bauves, there is a wash house that is poorly signposted but still worth seeing.

The church of Montjavoult, which is very unusual, remains open with a gate that prevents entry but allows you to take a peek inside.
