(S/E) Head towards Roche (D44) for 100 m, then turn right towards the hamlet of Le Mas and continue past the hamlet.
(1) At the Stop sign, turn right. After 100 m, let the D44 branch off to the right and continue straight up, passing the picnic area and the water tower.
(2) At the Stop sign, cross the D113 and take the path that passes in front of the hunters’ hut. Follow the main track. Cross the D113 once to follow a narrow path, then cross it a second time to take the track towards the hamlet of Jean Faure. If you turn round, you’ll have a magnificent view of the Forez plain, the Monts du Lyonnais and, on a clear day, the Alps.
(3) At the cross, head up to the right and take the path to the right of the mobile phone mast. Over the next kilometre, you’ll walk through lovely woodland and cross the Trézaillette stream.
(4) Before emerging completely from the woodland and a good fifty metres before reaching a road, turn right to head down towards the hamlet of Le Bouchet. Admire the view over the Saint-Étienne basin and the Pilat Mountains.
(5) 100 metres after a sharp right-hand bend, leave the path heading towards Le Bouchet on your right and continue leftwards to the Croix du Fau and the junction with the D44. Cross the road and continue along the tarmac path opposite for 300 metres. On your left, you’ll see the village of Roche, and on your right you’ll have a lovely view of Lérigneux.
(6) Leave the tarmac road and keep to the left to take a dirt track. Pass through the small hamlet of Chaudabry, and continue along a downhill track for 400 m.
(7) Ignore the signs for Tresailles and Les Farges and turn right towards Chavassieux. You’ll pass close to Chavassieux Castle and its mill, powered by the Trézaillette stream.
(8) Turn left, walk past the Chamblanc Nord farm and return to the Place des Écureuils in Lérigneux (S/E).
