Terril 107, The Little Clock Tower Walk

Park in the car park at the Carvin leisure centre, Chemin du Moulin.

(S/E) Follow the^GRP® path to the foot of the slag heap, initially skirting the subsidence ponds caused by mining. The pond will be on your right. You’ll cross the small bridges amongst the anglers.

(1) Head into the woods, where there are numerous paths. Follow the^GRP® to the foot of the slag heap.

(2) Start climbing the slag heap via a small path on the left. Very clear at first, the path gradually becomes less visible. Hold on tight, as some sections are quite steep before you reach the summit.

(3) Head back down the same path to reach the foot of the slag heap.

(2) Turn left and head slightly into the woods. Here too, there are numerous paths. You’ll soon come to a wide track; take it to the left to reach the railway line.

(4) Turn 180° to the right and, following the N17, head back to the car park where you started (S/E).

To get to the car park, simply turn right just after the Chrétien shop.
It’s best to follow the route carefully on your smartphone as the leisure centre is full of little paths (unless you like getting lost).
It is a completely wooded slag heap offering a different kind of landscape. The climb is very interesting but quite a physical challenge.
