Park in the car park near Sommeval Town Hall.
(S/E) Continue along Rue de la Rencontre towards the village exit. At the intersection, turn left onto Rue de l'Avenir. Follow the white and yellow markings, turning left at the hairpin bend onto Route de l'Avenir.
When you reach the information board, turn right onto the grassy path that climbs uphill. This path goes all the way around the Échelle lawn. Cross the Pelouse aux Orchidées (Orchid Lawn).
(1) An information panel describes the conservation efforts undertaken to protect this dry lawn, which is exceptionally rich in biodiversity. At the end of the lawn, go through a small passage in the hedge to reach the path below.
The path climbs steeply into the forest. At the first intersection (elevation 292), continue straight ahead and you will soon reach the Mulet crossroads.
(2) Turn left onto the forest path, leaving the 5km route that branches off to the right towards Sommeval.
You will reach the crossroads of the forest road, called the Sentier du Loup. Take it to the right, heading south-west. Continue along the path, which follows the ridge of the Javernant communal forest. You will reach the end of the ridge, where the view over the plain begins to open up.
(3) Turn right to descend the path to the ditch. Turn left to walk along the top of the ditch. At the footbridge, cross the ditch and continue to follow it to reach the edge of the woods where there is a picnic area.
(4) Walk along this area, taking three 90° turns and passing in front of the pumping station. Join the D89.
(5) Turn left then right to climb a white path towards the Sommeval forest: this is still the Sentier du Loup. Two more 90° turns to reach theGR®2, which is shared with theGRP® Tour des Forêts d'Othe.
(6) Turn right onto thisGR® and follow the red and white markings. At the first crossroads, take the path on the left. Enter the forest and continue until you reach another crossroads.
(7) Take the small path on the right that winds through the woods. Cross the D72 with caution and continue along the path opposite. Quickly turn right to pass the barrier, then take the forest path straight ahead. You will reach the La Billebaude hunting lodge.
(8) Turn right. Descend this wide path marked with white and green signs. Just after the water collection point, turn right onto the D72, then quickly turn left to climb a steep path heading south. The descent that follows is also steep. At the bottom, turn left to join theGR®2.
(9) Continue along theGR® opposite and follow it to the car park near the town hall (S/E).
