The Wolf Trail in Sommeval

The Sentier du Loup trail circles Sommeval. This pretty little village stretches out in a valley which, like an amphitheatre, is surrounded on three sides by wooded hills. The trail allows visitors to discover one of the last dry grasslands in the Pays d'Othe.
The trail is well maintained and clearly marked, but it is not recommended during the hunting season, from November to February.

Notes

The wolf that adorns the heraldic emblem of Sommeval may be a legend of the Voirloup. But we can verify that this Wolf Trail crosses a Sheep Trail.

Sheep trails did exist inthe 19th century. They allowed flocks to move between villages to reach the hillsides and plateaus that served as grazing land.

The Pelouse de l'Échelle is home to certain species that are usually found in the south of France. Today, sheep grazing and brush clearing help to preserve this area, which is threatened with extinction.

Always be cautious and plan ahead when you're outdoors. Visorando and the author of this route cannot be held responsible for any accidents occurring on this route.

We walked this trail in May 2023
We enjoyed the variety of the route, the lovely views of Sommeval and the Troyes plain,
and the section through the dry grassland.
This trail is particularly well marked, and we would like to thank the people who maintain it.
