Park in the car park near the town hall.
(S/E) With your back to the town hall, follow Rue de la Rencontre to the right towards the village exit. At the third intersection, turn left onto Route de l'Avenir. Follow the white and yellow markings.
(1) At the information board, turn right onto the grassy path that climbs uphill. This path goes all the way around the Échelle lawn. Cross the lawn with orchids.
(2) An information board describes the conservation efforts undertaken to protect this dry lawn, which is exceptionally rich in biodiversity. At the end of the lawn, go through a small passage in the hedge to reach the path below.
The path climbs steeply into the forest. At the first intersection, take thesecond path on the right. You will reach the Mulet crossroads.
(3) Take the forest path on the left. Leave the 5km route that leads to Sommeval.
(4) After 400 metres, turn right to follow the forest road, heading south. Continue along the path in the same direction for more than 1.5 kilometres. Follow the ridge of the Javernant communal forest to the end.
(5) The view of the plain begins to open up. Turn right to descend the path to the ditch. Turn left to follow the ditch (from above). At the small bridge (elevation 277m), cross the ditch and continue to follow it from below.
At the first fork, turn right to descend the steep slope.
(6) Turn left at the bottom of the valley. Pass a picnic area. Continue for 50m.
There is a beautiful view of the Sommeval plateau, dominated in the background by the Sommeval communal forest.
Go down the white path. At the bottom, turn right.
(7) Pass the pumping station to reach the D89 road. Turn left at an elevation of 187 metres, then right to climb another white path towards the Sommeval forest.
Further on, turn left and then right again.
(8) At the next crossroads, at an elevation of 200m, turn right.
Then follow theGR®2(a trail that circles the Othe forests) for 300 metres.
Turn left quickly to climb towards the forest. Walk for about 600m.
(9) Take the hairpin bend onto the small path on the right that winds through the woods.
(10) Cross the D72 and continue along the path opposite. After 100 metres, turn right to go through the barrier, then take the forest path straight ahead for 1.5 kilometres.
(11) Halfway along, pass the La Billebaude hunting lodge. Leave the 10km route that leads to Sommeval.
Continue straight ahead along the forest track. Turn left and then quickly right.
(12) After 500m, turn right then left.
(13) At the crossroads of five paths, the Sentier du Loup meets the Sentier des Moutons. Turn right. Then take theGR® marked in white and red.
Descend directly to Sommeval via the Voie Creuse.
Pass a picnic area. Beautiful view of the village. Cross the village to reach the town hall car park (S/E).
