Jeugny to Saint-Phal circular route

This route follows part of the L26 railway line, which has been disused since 1996, passing through the Fays-la-Chapelle tunnel. In 2018, an association called ASL26 was formed. Within three years, it had made the railway line between Jeugny and Auxon accessible to walkers.

The walk also takes in meadows and woodland.

Description of the walk

Park near the church, close to the junction of the D1 and Rue de la Gare in the centre of the village of Jeugny.

(S/E) Set off towards the west, then take the road on the left leading to the old station. Immediately take the path on the right. At the end of the path, you’ll come to a road. Turn left onto this road for a few metres to reach the railway line.

(1) Turn right onto the railway line and continue along it. Pass through the tunnel and emerge at the other end.

(2) Continue along the railway line until you reach the junction with theGR®2.

(3) Leave the railway line and continue along the side path that runs alongside the railway line to the left. Carry on until you reach the junction with a path running at right angles.

(4) Take this path to the left, initially skirting meadows and the edge of the woods. Then enter the woods to reach a crossroads with four perpendicular paths.

(5) Turn right, then left to rejoin theGR®2. Follow it to the right for a few metres until you reach the Ru Bernard.

(6) Leave theGR® and turn left. Follow the stream and then turn right away from it to reach the edge of a woodland.

(7) Enter the woodland, then turn left at the next junction. Continue through the woodland, then turn right at the next junction. You’ll come to a wider path; take it to the left and you’ll soon find Rue de Villemienne on your right. Take this road and follow it until you reach the junction you passed on the way out.

(1) Turn right onto the footpath and join the D34, which is also Rue de la Gare. Turn left onto it to make your way back at a leisurely pace to the car park in the centre of Jeugny (S/E).

A pleasant and easy hike. Walk along the railway line then through wooded countryside. Muddy sections at this time of year.

A lovely walk, best done in dry weather.
It’s advisable to use a sat-nav so you don’t miss a turn.
The section along the tracks is very pleasant, but the paths from point 4 to 6 are poorly maintained, with tall grass and various obstacles.

A pleasant walk, but… there’s no longer a path between point 4 and point 5 – just thickets of brambles, thistles and stinging nettles.
So make sure you wear trousers and… bring a machete! (Or a tractor with a brush cutter!)
