(S) Start on the Rocher du Cerf ski slope, Bleue, at the far left of the resort. A good warm-up climb to the entrance of the trail in the woods on the left.
(1) Follow this trail, which quickly turns into a track that joins the Rocher du Cerf,a promontory with a small viewpoint over the resort and some of the surrounding peaks.
(2) The GR® continues its climb through the woods along the ridge. The trail is very pleasant until you reach a rocky passage (which is not too difficult to cross).
(3) Continue on, and shortly after the forest gives way to bare ground, the climb becomes steeper towards the ridge between the Aiguillon and the Puy du Rocher.
(4) The GR® trail suddenly branches off to the left to join a pass below the Aiguillon.
(5) (Start of the PR® trail towards the Cirque de Chamalière below). The GR® continues along the ridge towards the Puy du Rocher via some beautiful aerial passages. Caution: there are a few rocky passages in the last section (including a 2-metre via ferrata) to reach the summit of the Puy du Rocher.
(6) Continue towards the cable car station via a gentle descent to the Pas de Alpins, then climb back up (on the ski slopes).
(7) Once you reach the cable car station (bar, restaurant, toilets), continue along the wide, obvious track that goes straight ahead, then turn right and go behind the avalanche barriers. The GR® trail goes around the Plomb du Cantal on the right, but it is quite possible to go over the top.
(8) On the other side, leave the path towards Puy Brunet and Puy Gros, which runs along the ridges, and turn left towards Prat de Bouc. Begin a long descent through the summer pastures/ski slopes (depending on the season!). The path alternates between meadows and stony sections and heads towards the buildings of the Prat de Bouc resort (E).
