Park in the car park in front of the local bistro, Cami de Cruells.
(S/E) Take Rambla Pablo Casals. The starting point is marked at the fountain.
You can fill your water bottles with spring water. You won't find any along the route. There is a sign for a spring at the top, but it is in a closed hut.
At the end of the street, turn left onto Carrer Major towards the church square, then right onto Carrer d'Amunt.
The paved street becomes a track; continue straight ahead, leaving the path to Mosset on your left.
(1) Before the first hairpin bend in the track, leave it and take the path that runs along the fence on your left. There is a yellow sign indicating the start of the route to Pic Rosselló. The yellow markings are discreet but, if you pay attention, you can find your way. There are also a few cairns.
(2) Continue straight ahead north on the path, which makes a first circular loop to the left and then a second to the right.
(3) Take note of this spot so you can leave the track and take the path that climbs to the left. The markings on the tree are not very visible and you may be tempted to stay on the track, which ends in a dead end a little further on. Climb up to a junction of paths.
(4) Yellow signs point to the right towards the mule track, which will be used for the return journey. Look for the old wooden sign with blue paint: Pic Rosselló. Climb up the path opposite, which becomes steeper.
(5) Turn right, following the markings and passing under the large tree. Walk past a few ruined cortals (sheepfolds).
(6) You will arrive at a grassy plateau where cows and bulls graze. Respect them and walk quietly.
A track will take you closer to your destination.
(7) Turn right off the path to the antenna that marks the summit.
(8) Pic del Rosselló: from here you will see a magnificent panorama: opposite, the Pic de Bugarach and the Corbières cliffs. Below, Sournia and Campoussy. In the distance, Força Real and the sea. Looking west, the Madres and the Pic de la Creu and, of course, the Canigou, due south.
If you take the walk in summer, there is even a pretty pine grove where you can picnic in the shade.
And if you do it in autumn or winter, you'll also find a lovely spot in the sunshine next to the orri.
Head back down to the path.
(7) Turn right to rejoin the ascent route.
(6) Turn right and descend, following the same path you took on the way up.
(4) There are two options at this point:
- either you descend via the same path you came up to the car park;
- or, following these directions, you can reach Molitg via the mule track that heads east, following the trail. Take theGR®® P Tour des Fenouillèdes for about 500 metres.
(9) At the first fork, turn right and head downhill towards the south-east. You will leave theGR®® P. Continue despite the yellow and red cross. You will reach the track after descending a ravined path.
(10) Turn right to return to the village.
(1) Turn left and stay on the track to return to the car park (S/E).
