Park at Place de la Cale, in the centre of Betton opposite the town hall, where parking is available. The square hosts the large Sunday market until 2 pm. If necessary, park opposite the town hall or in the nearby streets.
(S/E) Set off from Place de la Cale heading south, away from Betton Town Hall. Follow the towpath along the right bank of the canal to the footbridge that crosses it.
(1) Cross the canal via the footbridge and continue southwards along the towpath on the left bank.
(2) Immediately after the Haut Chalet lock, ignore the path branching off to the left. You will take this path on the way back.
(3) In the bend of the canal to the right, following the lock, a path branches off to the left from a small footbridge. Take the footbridge and the path and continue to the first junction on the tarmac road. Turn left. Continue for 200 m along this road until you come to the start of a footpath on the right.
(4) An RTE electricity substation helps you spot the path. Take it and follow it along the edge of the Training Centre until you arrive opposite the Altenov premises. Turn left to reach the large roundabout on the A-road 50 m ahead.
Cross the A-road (take care!) and follow it to the right, heading south, on the pavement, for 150 m. You will come to a junction on the left.
(5) Turn left at the junction (signposted Brebion), then cross the railway line at the level crossing. Immediately after the crossing, turn right onto the path running alongside the railway line. Continue along this path, which curves sharply to the left further on.
Shortly after this bend, a fitness trail branches off to the left, just before the Pluvignon stream. Take this trail and, a little further on to the right, cross the Pluvignon stream (footbridge) to follow the fitness trail along its left bank.
(6) The path takes you close to the retail park. Head towards the large roundabout at the entrance to the retail park. Go round it on the left and continue straight ahead on a paved footpath that climbs slightly and quickly heads north.
Further on, the footpath joins the road at the hamlet of Vau Robion. Continue along this road to the level crossing over the railway line. Cross the tracks, then cross the main road to reach the canal at the Haut Chalet lock.
(2) At the lock, turn right and follow the route taken on the way out to return to the starting car park (S/E).
