Go to the Ruchère resort, then to a place called Le Habert at an altitude of 1,150 metres.
(S/E) Take the wide path that leads to the Col de la Ruchère.
At an altitude of 1,200 m, cross a slight plateau curiously called the car park. A little higher up is the Oratoire Teste de Lavines, which leads to the pass at an altitude of 1,400 m.
(1) Take the path heading east. After a few hairpin bends, a signpost offers you the choice of reaching the Pas du Loup or the Petit Som in 45 minutes.
(2) We chose the latter option, mainly to avoid the steep, snow-covered gully on the way up, where it is essential to watch your step in the snow as any slip in this area could have serious consequences. It is not forbidden to use your hands for support.
(3) At the exit of the gully, head north and after 5 minutes you will find the Petit Som and its metal cross
Enjoy the scenery, including Dent de l'Ours, Grand Som, Chamechaude and the majestic Mont Blanc.
(4) Return to the exit of the Goulet.
(3) Descend to the left to the Col de Léchaud at 1,704 m.
(5) From the pass, head south down into the valley to reach the Pas du Loup at 1,550 m.
(6) Cross the Pas du Loup via a short climb, then a slightly more tricky descent that is best negotiated by downclimbing.
The trail then continues gently downhill until you reach the signpost you passed on the way up.
(2) The rest of the route is now familiar, as it is the reverse of the ascent. Head back to the Col de la Ruchère and then it's the final descent through the forest to the car park (S/E).
one section is protected from the drop by a rock frame, which is actually quite fun to climb down, but the other is quite close to the steep slope at that point)
