Parking at Espace Nordique, at the exit of Les Fourgs, towards Yverdon. Yellow-blue and white-red markings, with some sections unmarked.
Start of the Sentier des Bornes trail.
(S/E) Head towards the back of the building and turn right at the fork. After the hedge of fir trees on the left, immediately turn left into the pasture via the metal footbridge, crossing it lengthwise.
At the crossroads, continue straight ahead along the dead-end road. When it ends, turn right into the pasture, crossing it at a slight angle to the right towards the edge of the woods and a barrier with another metal footbridge (leaving the marked trail). You will soon reach a farm track at right angles, which you should take to the left to reach the D6 departmental road.
(1) Cross it carefully and continue along the beautiful gravel path opposite. When the path widens to form a hunting car park, go down the small path on the right which crosses a small clearing. When it turns to the right, go straight on along the path which turns left and joins the marked Bornes trail. You are now in Switzerland. At the stony path, descend to the right towards the Refuge de la Gare d'Olten.
(2) Turn right. There is a beautiful view of Chasseron, Les Petites Roches and Le Cochet. The path turns left towards some houses. You will come to a crossroads. Turn right onto the grassy path. At the well, go through the turnstile into the pasture and head towards the farm on the left. Walk past the barn to reach the departmental road.
(3) Cross carefully and continue along the gravel path opposite. Go through the gate in the dry stone wall and head up to the right, passing behind the customs house and returning to France by following the departmental road on the left for 150 metres. Then turn left onto the small tarmac road. When you reach the pastures, go down to the left towards La Beuffarde. Opposite the chalet, you will find benches where you can take a break.
(4) The path becomes stony and turns to the right. Remember to turn around for beautiful views of the Swiss mountains. At a cattle grid, continue along this small road (despite the yellow-blue cross). You will pass a small chalet.
(5) Shortly afterwards, before the Bégaude chalet, at an oak tree (on the right) whose trunk splits into three, climb up towards the woods on the far left to a metal footbridge. At the fir tree clearing with traces of old markings, head to the far right (towards Mont de l'Herba). At the pastures, follow the fence on your left to the Grange Dernier chalet, with views of Montagne de Baulmes on your left.
(6) Set off again along the gravel path, which quickly enters the woods.
(7) Ignore the path that branches off to the left towards Mont de l'Herba and continue straight ahead. There is a short stretch of tarmac, but it is a quiet minor road. At the bottom, back in the pastures, turn right onto this minor road, which ends in an open field.
(8) Climb up to the left onto the stony path that quickly enters the woods (you may need to open and close two gates). You will soon come to a fork. Continue straight ahead (left-hand path) to a pasture dotted with gentians where you will find theGR® markings (gate).
(9) Descend to the right towards a chicane passage. Then climb back up to the left, following a meadow path to a small road that you will follow to the right until you reach the Auberge du Vourbey.
(10) The road ends at the inn. Head into the pasture on the left via the chicane and follow the fence (marked with signs) on your right. At the end of the pastures, you will find a gravel road that passes in front of a shelter and large picnic tables. Join a small tarmac road at a hairpin bend.
(11) Climb up to the left for a few metres. If you're feeling brave, you can make a return trip to the president's fir tree on the left. Don't miss the path on the left, which was hidden by a large fallen tree trunk when I passed by. Climb straight up through the young fir forest via a grassy track until you reach a new pasture (metal footbridge).
Continue straight ahead. At the fir grove, descend slightly to the right into the hollow of the pasture and turn right towards the chapel. Join a gravel road and follow it to the right until you reach the chapel and its view of Les Fourgs.
(12) Go back down to the main road and follow it on the right. At the sandy football pitch, you can cross it to avoid the dangerous section and reach the car park more quickly (S/E).
