Parking in the village centre, in front of the town hall or the old village school. Markings: Yellow, blue, white, red, yellow. Some sections are unmarked.
(S/E) Marker post in front of the school. Head towards the church via Rue de la Distillerie (towards Route de la Corne). Visit the Church of the Assumption to see a polychrome wooden Virgin, its ex-voto monument to the dead and beautiful carved pine benches. Leave the cemetery and go up to the left into Rue de la Distillerie.
(1) At the last house in the village, at the fork in the hiking trails, take the small road on the right, which quickly becomes a gravel road. Turn around to see the silhouette of Chasseron between the hills. When it disappears into a pasture, turn right (90°) to the corner of the first grove about a hundred metres away, then left (again 90°), soon skirting the edge of a fir tree plantation.
(2) At the corner of the fir tree grove, after a small footbridge in the fence, turn right, keeping the fir tree grove close to your right until you reach the path that enters the woods. You will come to a small tarmac road, which you take to the right for about twenty metres until you reach the intersection, then descend to the left along the wider road to the hamlet with its typical Comtois houses.
(3) Stop at the chapel, built entirely of wooden shingles. Go down into the pasture on the far right, passing between the chapel and the neighbouring farm (yellow and blue marker on the gutter). At the electricity pole, turn 90° to the right, following the fence until you reach a copse. Cross the electric fence. Cross the pasture widthwise and climb the path opposite that enters the woods.
(4) At the top, it approaches the ledges (on the left), becoming wider and turning into a farm track (which can sometimes be muddy). When it starts to descend, look out for a path that climbs towards the ledge on the left (sign for Belvédère de la Roche Mijoux in the opposite direction of travel).
(5) At the viewpoint (not very secure, but safe if you take the usual precautions), you will see (a little) of the end of Lac Saint-Point, but above all a beautiful view of the valley and the Château de Joux. Return to the path and follow it down to a pasture. Close the gate behind you and follow the path that turns left and climbs, becoming a beautiful stone path, until you reach the main road. At the first houses, turn left at the fork.
(6) Go down the left-hand side of the main road for about 400m , keeping to the left-hand side and taking care as cars drive fast in this area. Cross the road carefully and climb up the beautiful gravel path on the right. There are old traces of yellow and blue markings. Stay on this path, even at the fork in the hiking trails at the "Les Buclés" signpost.
(7) At the top, in a beautiful little clearing, the gravel path gives way to a pasture path. After another short stretch through the undergrowth, you will come to a pasture dotted with gentians, which you can access via a small metal footbridge. Do not go down towards the farm building, but turn left towards the path that can be seen in the meadow. When you come to a dry stone wall on your right, the path forks. Take the left fork towards the superb viewpoint over La Cluse de Joux and its castle.
(8) Leave the viewpoint by going through two turnstiles and, at the signpost marked "La Roche Sarrazine, 1175m," descend to the village via the small road on the right (variant ofthe GR®5). There is a beautiful view of the Petite Roches on the left.
(9) With Les Fourgs in sight, you will come to another small road at a right angle, marked "Route de la Roche". Turn left until you reach the farm shed, then right and finally left after the calvary. However, if the grass is short, simply cross the field in front of you. At the main road, go up to the right to the car park (S/E).
The route includes unsecured viewpoints.
