Free public car park near the customs office on the Swiss side, opposite a restaurant. Parking is prohibited on the French side.
(S/E) Cross the road carefully, follow it to the left and leave the restaurant on your right. At the signs, leave the road and take a field path on the right. Further on, turn left and take a passage through a hedge. Continue through the meadows, heading north then north-east, until you reach a forest path.
(1) Follow it to the left. Shortly afterwards, ignore a path on the left, leave the Refuge de la Gare d'Olten on your left and enter the forest. Further on, leave the forest and you will immediately come to a road.
(2) Follow the road to the right until you reach the next sign. Take the first road on the left, climb and cross a hamlet. Continue along a forest path.
(3) When the road turns left, continue straight ahead on a field path. Go straight ahead, ignoring the turnings on the left, and arrive at the village of La Vraconnaz.
(4) Turn right onto Rue des Rochettes and go downhill. Turn left onto this street and continue to a T-junction.
(5) Then turn right, leave the village and descend to the next sign.
(6) Turn left onto a field path and walk alongside a wood on your left. After a slight climb, look for a tree with a mark on it below on your left. Walk downhill to the hamlet of Noirvaux-Dessus.
(7) Continue straight ahead on the small access road to the hamlet (ignore a track on the left).
(8) Come out onto a larger road and first turn left then right to cross it and take an uphill forest path (well marked). Turn left at the hairpin bend and you will come to a crossroads.
(9) Leave the signposts and continue straight ahead on a grassy path. Climb up into the forest, where you will find the signposts again. When you reach a road, be careful, follow it to the right and cross with caution to reach the Col des Étroits.
(10) Just before the pass car park, take a road on the right. Climb up, enjoying beautiful views of Sainte-Croix, Lake Neuchâtel and the Alps. Pass a few houses and continue straight ahead on a path into the forest.
(11) Leave the forest and you will see the first wind turbine. Continue south-southwest on the path, which is well marked.
(12) At an intersection, turn right and pass at the foot of a wind turbine. Continue south-west on the main path. You will come to a road.
(13) Follow it to the left and cross the hamlet of La Gittaz-Dessous. You will come to a larger road. Follow it straight ahead and you will soon reach a triangular junction.
(14) Take the road on the right and arrive at the hamlet of La Gittaz-Dessus.
(15) At the corner of the first house, take a path on the right. Ignore a path on the right and pass by a wind turbine. Stay on the main path. Walk along a wood on your left, enter the wood and you will soon come to a fork.
(16) Then turn right. After about 100 metres, turn left to see the Creux des Neiges (a chasm that is nothing special). Retrace your steps.
(16) Take a sharp right turn and walk west-southwest through the forest.
(17) Cross the road carefully and continue through the forest on the path opposite.
(18) At the tree marked with the number 51, turn right onto the Sentier des Bornes. Continue straight ahead (north-west) on this wild path and walk along a wall or fence.
(19) The Sentier des Bornes turns north-northwest and becomes even wilder. Keep walking along the wall or fence.
(20) Turn right (east-northeast) onto Sentier des Bornes. Further on, leave the forest and turn left (north) into a field. The path is not very well marked.
(21) After about 300 m, take a passage on the left (be careful to spot this passage). Immediately turn right and continue straight ahead (north) on a faint path. This will take you to the road leading to the customs office and the car park (S/E).
