Description of the walk

Park at the junction before the road leading to the Montpetot Chapel.

(S/E) Take the tarmac road heading east which enters the forest. Follow it straight on to its end.

(1) The road turns into a dirt track at the entrance to a pasture. Follow it to the edge of the forest and continue through the forest until you reach the access point to Granges Marguet.

(2) Turn right, then at the next junction about a hundred metres further on, turn right again in front of the farm onto another tarmac road. Follow it to the Belvédère de La Roche Sarrasine.

(3) Leave the road and follow the path to the right, heading north-west, until you reach the junction with another GR®.

(4) Turn right, staying on theGR® 5 and leaving the Via Francigena. Head down into the woods where you’ll come to a meadow and enjoy a sweeping view of Château de Joux.

(5) Walk past La Chapelle de Montpetot and return to the car park where you started (S/E).

Despite two kilometres on two sections of small paved road, this is a pleasant walk with a magnificent view from the Roche Sarrasine viewpoint overlooking the Château de Joux and Fort Malher. A pretty spot with a small shelter and two picnic tables.

The route is very poorly signposted, or not at all in some places
Up in the hills there’s no mobile signal; I’d downloaded the QR code – which is great when there is a signal!
Being the scatterbrain that I am, in my haste to set off, I forgot the route description and the map
:
We had to ask for directions several times from La Roche Sarrazine onwards.
One good thing, though: after a good climb, the views are magnificent

A lovely little route through the countryside. The viewpoint overlooking Fort de Joux and the Montpetot chapel add to the charm of the whole experience.
Lush, secluded valleys – perfect for a relaxing stroll. And delicious raspberries to round it all off!
