The walk starts from Cormet d'Arèches. To get there by car from Arèches, follow the signs for the Saint-Guérin dam, where you take the road on the left and continue straight ahead. The road turns into a track that you can drive on to Cormet d'Arèches, where you can park.
(S/E) Take the yellow-marked trail heading north, which follows the ridge above Lac des Fées, further to the left, and Lac de la Motte, to the right. The first stop is the Berger cross, clearly visible from the start.
(1) The Berger cross is located at an altitude of 2,159 metres, offering a beautiful view of the Vanoise massif to the south-east, in particular Mont Pourri, but also the Aravis range to the west with Lac de Saint-Guérin below. Continue along the path, north-north-east, towards the rocks that form a small gorge where you can have fun finding shapes.
(2) Fork in the path to see Lac des Marmottes. When you reach a Y-shaped crossroads, take the main path on the left, which is marked in yellow. On the right, you can take a short detour to Lac des Marmottes (2,265 metres).
(3) Cross the aptly named Plan de la Marmotte. If you pay attention, you will surely find a colony in the hollow above the small pools of water.
(4) The path arrives at a small pass. At this point, turn left and follow the ridge line that climbs towards Mont Coin. The yellow-marked path is not very well signposted, but you will quickly find it on the ridge line. From there, the climb to the summit begins. This is the most physically demanding part of the hike, but it is easily manageable if you pace yourself and, above all, it offers a superb view!
You arrive at Mont Coin, which rises to 2,539 metres, where you have a breathtaking view of Mont Blanc, Pierra Menta, Aiguille du Grand Fond, as well as small lakes and the Roselend dam.
(5) The return journey is in the opposite direction and is not particularly difficult, leading back to Cormet d'Arèches (S/E).
