Access - From Beaufort, head towards Arêches-Beaufort. Once you reach the village, follow signs for the Saint-Guérin dam and park in the car park.
(S/E) From the dam car park, follow the sign for "Lac des Fées". Take the road that descends to the left of the lake until you reach a small picnic area next to a wooden footbridge, which you must cross. Continue along the paved path, keeping the lake on your right. After passing a stream, continue along the wide track until you reach a crossroads.
(1) Take the path on the left that goes up into the forest. Continue through the forest on the track, which will gradually become a narrower path. When you leave the forest, continue straight ahead until you come to a road. Cross this road and continue slightly uphill, turning right after a few metres to rejoin the path that climbs uphill, which is always signposted.
Continue straight ahead after another road junction. You will come to this road one last time during the lower part of the hike. Turn slightly to the right to continue climbing up the mountain. Follow the path, which is very easy to spot in the vast green expanse of the mountain.
(2) Pass the Laie refuge and continue along the road for about 100 metres before rejoining the path that climbs towards Lac des Fées. For the last time on the hike, cross the road to admire the lake and walk around it.
(3) The return journey follows the same route.
