Starting point: Hoenheim, Hoenheim Gare tram stop. Accessible by tram line B, the Strasbourg–Lauterbourg TER train and buses.

(S/E) From the car park, head south-west down towards the Marne–Rhine Canal, following the allotments. Reach the canal bank and turn left.
The route runs alongside the Hoenheim Ried neighbourhood, then through Bischheim and Schiltigheim Marais via the greenway. It passes under the bridge on Avenue Mendes France, opposite the two stadiums in Schiltigheim. It then reaches the Schiltigheim lock at the junction between the canal and the River Aar, which itself flows into the River Ill.
(1) Continue along the canal. When you reach the bridge crossing the canal, turn left until you reach the junction with Rue Pierre de Coubertin; cross this street, then turn right to cross Boulevard de Dresde (pedestrian crossing). Return to the canal bank and continue along it. On the opposite bank stands the European Parliament.
(2) Cross the bridge over the Ill and, a little further on, walk past the Palais des Droits de l’Homme.
Cross the road at the Pont de la Robertsau. You’ll now be on the Quai Jacoutot ; walk past the imposing Turkish Consulate. You’ll arrive at the Pont de la Porte du Canal.
(3) Cross the bridge to reach the other bank and continue along the canal in the same direction until you reach the magnificent Orthodox church.
(4) Just after this, the canal joins the Bassin des Remparts; follow it briefly on the right before turning right at the entrance to the Orthodox church, which is open to the public.
On leaving the church, take Quai Boussingault on the right until you reach the junction with Rue du Conseil des XV. Cross the road and turn left. Walk alongside the Parc de l’Orangerie. Pass thefirst entrance to the park on the right; continue for about fifty metres to find asecond one.
(5) Enter the park, then turn immediately left to cross it. After a wide bend to the right and then to the left, you’ll find yourself facing the Pavillon Joséphine.
(6) Go round it on the left and take the path on the left. Before the exit, turn right and continue towards the Sentier Stanislas Klébert. In the long bend to the right, look for the path on the left that leads onto Avenue de l’Europe.
(7) Opposite the Council of Europe, cross the avenue then take the path on the right to go up onto the bridge. After the bridge, take the path on the left and follow the canal northwards once more. Follow the outward route in the opposite direction, all the way back to Hoenheim Gare (S/E).
