Description of the walk

Start: Hoenheim, Hoenheim Gare tram stop. Accessible by tram B, the Strasbourg–Lauterbourg TER train and buses.
Free P2 car park.
From early 2026, the footpath and cycle path will be separated to avoid conflicts of use.

(S/E) From the car park, head south-west down towards the Marne-Rhine Canal, following the allotments. Reach the canal bank and turn left.
The route runs alongside the Hoenheim Ried district, then through Bischheim and Schiltigheim Marais via the greenway. It passes under the bridge on Avenue Mendes France opposite the two stadiums in Schiltigheim. It then reaches the Schiltigheim lock at the junction between the canal and the River Aar, which itself flows into the River Ill.

(1) Continue along the canal. When you reach the bridge crossing the canal, turn left until you reach the junction with Rue Pierre de Coubertin, cross it, then turn right to cross Boulevard de Dresde (pedestrian crossing). Return to the canal bank and continue along it. On the opposite bank is the European Parliament, and a little further on you’ll pass the Palace of Human Rights.
Cross the road at the Pont de la Robertsau. You will now be on Quai Jacoutot and will pass the imposing Turkish Consulate. You will reach the Pont de la Porte du Canal.

(2) Cross the bridge to reach the other bank and continue along the canal in the same direction until you reach the magnificent Orthodox church.

(3) Just after this, the canal joins the Bassin des Remparts; follow it briefly to the right to reach the entrance to the Orthodox church on the right, which is open to the public.
On leaving the church, take Quai Boussingault on the right until you reach the junction with Rue du Conseil des XV. Cross the road and turn left, walking alongside the Parc de l’Orangerie. Pass thefirst entrance to the park on the right; walk about fifty metres further to find asecond one.

(4) Enter the park, turn immediately left to cross it. After a wide bend to the right and then to the left, you will arrive opposite the Pavillon Joséphine.

(5) Go round it on the left and take the path on the left. Before the exit, turn right and continue towards the Sentier Stanislas Klébert. In the long bend to the right, look for the path on the left that leads onto Avenue de l’Europe.

(6) Opposite the Council of Europe, cross the avenue then take the path on the right to go back up onto the bridge. After the bridge, take the path on the left and follow the canal northwards again. Follow the outward route in the opposite direction, all the way back to Hoenheim Gare (S/E).
