Start from the car park at the Le Réal housing estate, past the S-Paul-de-Fenouillet Emergency Centre, at the end of Rue Gilbert Brutus.
(S/E) Leave the housing estate and follow Rue Gilbert Brutus. At the next junction, turn left, then left again at the end of Rue Louis Noguère, passing in front of the Emergency Centre. Carry on straight ahead onto the D619 until you reach the Clue de la Fou and the Roman bridge spanning the Agly, with the ancient thermal baths on your right and the hot springs (28°C) on your left. This is also the start of the Via Ferrata. Continue for a few metres to the next junction.
(1) Cross the bridge over the Agly and follow the D619 towards Sournia.
(2) At kilometre marker No. 8, take in the view of the Roman aqueduct and the valley, with the ruins of a mill in the background, and continue along the D619. After one kilometre, enter Ansignan and arrive at a junction.
(3) Turn left onto the D9 towards Caramany. Follow this road with care – there is a steep descent – until you reach the bridge over the Desix.
(4) Cross the bridge and continue left onto the D9. Begin the climb and arrive at Lake Caramy. View of the lake.
(5) Cross the bridge and continue along the D9 to the next junction.
(6) Carry on left onto the D9 and reach the junction at kilometre marker no. 36.
(7) Turn left onto the D79, towards Lansac. This small road climbs for 6 km and passes through the village. Continue to the junction just after passing the cement works.
(8) Ignore the D77 and turn right onto the D79 towards Maury, then join the D19.
(9) Turn left onto the D19 towards Lesquerde, reach the village and drive straight through it. After a long descent, you’ll reach the bridge over the Agly and the D7, which you passed on the way there.
(1) Head right and, following the reverse route of the outward journey, reach the car park at the Le Réal housing estate (S/E).
