Park in the car park at the Fontenilles sports ground.
(S/E) With your back to the Maison des Sports, take the path running alongside the rugby pitch towards the indoor tennis courts.
(1) Turn left and cross the D37 with the utmost caution, as there is no pedestrian crossing, then take the old Lias road opposite. Continue to the village centre. Pass the cemetery and the outdoor tennis courts.
(2) At the junction, go straight on, go round the church and head down into the Ruisseau des Crabères valley. You’ll reach the Angelines houses.
(3) Carry on straight ahead and head back up the Chemin des Starguets. You’ll reach the Starguets crossroads.
(4) Ignore the road on the right leading to the castle; continue straight ahead along the Chemin des Starguets. You’ll reach another crossroads with a dirt track.
(5) Leave the Chemin des Starguets here and turn right onto this dirt track to head down towards L’Aussonnelle. Cross the river either via the footbridge or the log.
(6) Turn left and follow the river along its right bank. Enter the small wood, admiring the bend in the river as you go, then emerge at Las Prières and rejoin the tarmac road. Walk through the whole of the Saint-Flour neighbourhood and continue to the departmental road, stopping briefly to admire the sculptures in our artist’s garden, almost opposite the fishing ponds.
(7) At the crossroads, turn left onto the Route de Pascau and head downhill. At the bottom of the descent, before the bridge over the Aussonnelle, turn right ontothe GR®86and note the earthen embankment on the right, which is used to retain the water from the Roch reservoir. Continue to the La Source estate at the end of the straight stretch of road.
(8) After a short detour to admire the duck pond at the far end of the property, turn right onto the Chemin de Thière and leave theGR® behind. Continue along this road, passing the riding club, and follow it until the junction with the Chemin Roch.
(9) Turn right here, leaving the tarmac behind for a stony track until you reach the crossroads with the footpath at the edge of the woods.
(10) Take the path on the left which leads into the Bois de Juge and follow it to the end, ignoring the branches off to the right or left. This will take you to the edge of the woods near the Jacoumart neighbourhood.
(11) Head up to the left, as the path on the right is now closed off and barbed wire blocks access. Follow the path until you reach the edge of the woods. Turn left and walk along the edge of the Bois de Juge, crossing two small streams via makeshift bridges, until you reach the end of Allée du Serpolet.
Walk up Allée du Serpolet and cross Route de Magnes with care to take the path opposite, which follows the electricity pylons to the junction with the path leading to the Etrier de Fontenilles equestrian centre.
(12) Turn right, pass the France Télécom telecoms mast and continue until you reach the Chemin des Cavaliers. Here, join theGR®86, marked in red and white, and follow it. Cross the Château Wood and arrive at a tarmac road.
(13) Turn right onto the Chemin du Château and head downhill to cross the Aussonnelle. After the bridge, head back up towards the Chemin des Starguets to reach the Starguets crossroads you passed earlier.
(4) Turn left and, following the same route as on the way out, head back to the Avelines crossroads.
(3) Turn right onto Allée de la Garance. At the end, turn left onto Allée Artésia, then take the footpath that continues along it, following the gas pipeline. At the end of the footpath, carry on straight ahead onto Allée Bellevue. After the bend to the right, leave the avenue and take the footpath on the right. Cross Rue du Clos de la Plaine carefully and continue straight ahead along the footpath, which leads to the Clos de Jules. Follow the road straight ahead and you’ll come out into the Tilleuls housing estate.
(14) Just before a right-hand bend, take the footpath on the left which leads onto Rue du 8 Mai 1945. Turn left onto the street, cross at the raised crossing and continue towards the town centre until you reach the unpaved track on the right.
(15) Turn right onto it and head up the cul-de-sac, then rejoin the tarmac by turning right into Allée le Clos des Chants. At thefirst junction, turn left, then right at the next junction, as the other roads in the housing estate are cul-de-sacs. You’ll arrive on the D65, Route de Laugranet.
(16) Turn your back on the blue house and head towards the stadium, keeping to the left-hand side of the Route de Laugranet, as there is no hard shoulder on the right. Continue to the roundabout on the D37, the Fontenilles bypass. Cross with care and take the Route de Lias opposite, keeping to the left-hand side of the road, until you reach the stadium car park (S/E).
