The Planets Route in Lusignan

A lovely short route combining a tour of the village of Lusignan with long stretches through the adjoining forest: the Grand Parc. It is dotted with small information boards explaining the planets of our solar system. Every step you take on this route is equivalent to 700,000 km! You’ll realise that Neptune really is a long way away from us! Ideal for a family outing.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the Tourist Office.

(S/E) At the far left of the car park, take the path leading down to the left towards “Vestiges du Château”.
At the ‘Soleil’ information sign, take the path that descends the furthest. After the ‘Vénus’ information sign, follow the narrow path that climbs between two stone walls. Continue for about 70 m beneath the castle ruins, then turn left as you descend to reach the overhang above the road. Go down the steps and turn right onto the road.

(1) At the junction, turn left, cross the bridge over the Vonne and, at the next junction, take the path furthest to the right which runs along the edge of the woods.

(2) When you reach a tarmac road, turn left and continue along the dirt track which climbs until you pass under a small railway arch. Turn immediately left and continue along this narrow path, taking the steps
about 40 metres further on. Keep to the left when you reach a wider path.

(3) The trickiest part of the route: about a hundred metres after passing buildings below on your right, take a sharp right-hand bend onto a small descending path which immediately takes another sharp left-hand bend. Continue and at the next junction, keep to the right, leaving the path that climbs up to the left. As you leave the woods, follow the river.

(4) Pass under the penultimate arch of the viaduct before it crosses the river. You’ll come to a tarmac path that crosses part of the campsite (access permitted).

(5) At the next junction, turn right, cross the bridge over the Vonne, continue straight on towards the bins and turn right, towards “La Plage”. Immediately turn left onto the path that climbs and stay on this main path until you reach the town centre square.
Turn left to cross the bridge between the two towers of the old medieval gate and continue straight on, keeping all the streets on your right, to return to the starting point (S/E).

The sections just before and after the viaduct can be very wet following heavy rainfall. Please wear suitable footwear.

Worth a visit

Once back at the car park, do take a stroll through the nearby green space: Les Promenades de Blossac.
Here you’ll find picnic areas, children’s play equipment and a viewpoint overlooking the Vonne Valley.

A lovely route through the forest, perfect for warm weather like this weekend. However, at one point we couldn’t see the signposts, so we followed the path using our instincts. As for the map, it’s a bit unclear.

A nice little hike. As I'm preparing for Santiago de Compostela, I did it with my rucksack full of essentials (tent, sleeping bag, mat, cooking kit, etc.).
Just one small hiccup: there was a missing marker at a turn, which would have caused me to miss some important information if I hadn't followed the route on the app.

Lack of signage at crossroads in the woods, but luckily there is internet coverage. Otherwise, a great hike.
