Park in the car park by the wash house.
(S/E) From the wash house, go up the road on the left and cross the Cher via the bridge. Take the first street on the right (Rue des Ursulines). The street returns to the banks of the Cher, which it follows before moving away from it again at the last houses. Go to the end of the road, which turns into a white path.
(1) Take the first path that branches off perpendicularly to the right. After a 90° left turn, the path follows the banks of the Cher. Unfortunately, these are not very visible in summer as they are hidden by a hedge.
(2) After going around the small wood, at the crossroads, take the path on the right, which will take you back to the banks of the Cher. You will walk between the river and farmland. At the Moulin de Nitray, the path becomes a white track again. On the right, you will see the newly renovated buildings (private property).
(3) At the crossroads at the second entrance to the Moulin de Nitray, continue straight ahead. Go around the old leisure park and return to the D83 road.
(4) Cross the Cher via the bridge. At the next junction, turn into the first street on the left to reach Port de Chandon. Pass the first car park entrance on the left and take the second lane leading to the quayside. Here you can admire the Valchantray toue cabanée (an old Loire boat).
(5) To the left of the quay, take the small path that runs alongside the river and passes under the bridge, returning to the towpath. This grassy path winds between the Cher and the meadow before joining a small road at the hamlet of Nitray.
(6) Continue straight ahead on this small road towards the Nitray needle lock. From the lock, the small road is closed to motorised traffic. It follows the Cher.
(7) Leave the road and follow the path in front of you.
(8) Take the path on the left to go back up the path that you will follow on your right. The path becomes a trail again. You will see the Château de Beauvais between the trees. After the pumping station, go up the path on the left to rejoin the small road. Make a round trip to admire the Château de Beauvais (bed and breakfast and lodge). Take the road on your right to continue the walk. Along the way, you will see the Château de Leugny between the trees.
(9) At the picnic area, leave the road and take the path along the river. The path leads to the Azay-sur-Cher leisure area. Take the footbridge under the bridge to return to the starting point (S/E).
