In Chandon, park in the small car park at the port.
Please note: this route is not signposted.
(S/E) Facing the Cher, turn right onto a path that runs alongside the river and quickly leads to the port (information boards). Turn your back on the Cher and take the road opposite. This leads to a wider road. Continue straight ahead for a few metres, then turn onto the first path on the left, the Chemin des Grandes Vignes (red and whiteGR®®41markings).
(1) Shortly afterwards, leave theGR®® on your left and continue straight ahead across the fields. Further on, ignore a path that branches off to the left and backwards, then immediately join another path.
(2) Take this path on the left and continue straight ahead, ignoring a path on the right, until you reach a copse on the left of the path. Walk along this copse and you will come to another path.
(3) Turn right, pass the hamlet of Le Breuil and continue along the small road until you reach the D976 (take care!).
(4) Immediately turn onto a small road on the left and back. Continue straight ahead, following a stream on your right, until you reach La Boulaye (a beautiful house and restaurant).
(5) Turn right, cross the small stream via a footbridge, then continue straight ahead on the path that runs alongside the floodplains of the Cher. Further on, you will come to a small road and rejoin theGR®®41. Continue straight ahead to the Manoir de la Boissière.
(6) Ignore the road that branches off to the right and continue straight ahead on the road that approaches the Cher. Cross the hamlet of Vallet. Note some beautiful houses (some of which are lodges) and an old mill on the left.
(7) At the end of the hamlet, leave theGR®®41and turn right onto the road. Cross the hamlet of La Colinerie and continue until you almost reach the D976.
(8) About 50 metres before the main road, turn left onto a path running parallel to the D976. You will come to a perpendicular path; follow it to the left. Continue along this path, which curves to the right then left, between the vineyards. You will come out onto another path.
(9) Turn right and continue until you reach the D976. Follow it to the left, on the hard shoulder, for a few metres (take care!) then take the first road on the left. Walk alongside a pond on your right and the wall of the Château de Fontenay on your left to reach the Cher and theGR®®41.
(10) Turn right for a few metres to discover a beautiful Norman-style complex, then return below the Château de Fontenay and continue straight on theGR®®41along the Cher on your right. You will find yourself in the hamlet of Vallet.
(7) Continue straight ahead along the same path as on the way there until you reach Manoir de la Boissière.
(6) Opposite the manor house, leave theGR®®41and take the road on the left to the hamlet of Petit Vau. Cross this hamlet and follow the road that climbs to the right to join the D976.
(11) Follow the departmental road to the right for about 100 metres (take care!), on the side of the road or at the edge of the field on the other side of the ditch. Turn right onto the first road. Further on, walk alongside the vineyards on your right. Shortly afterwards, the road curves slightly to the right.
(12) Then take a path on the left that runs alongside a patch of young vines (GR®®41but no markings at this point). When you reach a copse, turn right behind the patch of vines and follow this path, which further on curves to the left. You will come out onto another path; turn right onto a trail that descends through the woods. At the bottom, turn left onto the path and cross the stream to reach La Boulaye.
(5) Continue straight ahead on theGR®®41, which is now clearly marked.
(13) Further on, just after a marshy grove on the right, turn onto the path that climbs to the left. Leave the undergrowth and continue across a field, then turn onto the first path on the right (GR®® markings on the ground). At the next intersection, continue to the right again on theGR®®41to reach the Chemin des Grandes Vignes.
(1) Then turn right to return via the same route you took to the Chandon port car park (S/E).
