Park in the car park at the Montagny-lès-Buxy cemetery.
(S/E) Take the road on the right, heading south, as you leave the car park, and continue straight on at the following junctions. Walk past the war memorial before reaching the end of Rue du Bourg.
(1) Turn right and follow the Chemin de la Vierge until, a little further up, you join theGR®® 76D coming from Rue du Moulin. Carry on straight ahead, then keep to the right at the stone cross to cross the D983.
(2) Cross this busy road with care and continue straight on, on theGR®®. Ignore all the side paths and stay on this wide, well-maintained track, which runs alongside a scrubby area before reaching, a little further on, the Neuilly crossroads (elevation 392).
(3) Leave theGR®® and follow the narrow lane to the left, towards Rimont, until you reach the gate of Neuilly Castle on the right. Ignore the road that turns left and take the straight dirt track between the bushes.
A little further on, ignore the start of a narrow path to the left, at the bend known as the Clos Renard. Continue southwards along the main track until you reach a Fork in the road, entering the woodland.
(4) Ignore a wide forest lane that veers to the right and keep to the left onto a path that winds its way through the deciduous woodland. A little further on, you’ll come to an unobstructed view on the left-hand side; continue down the slope until you reach a small road.
(5) Turn right and continue downhill until you come to a washhouse on the bend. Ignore the path leading off to the left behind the washhouse and stay on the road to reach Rimont Church, which is clearly visible from below.
(6) Keep to the left and follow the Chemin des Crays for about 200 m. Leave the road as it bends to the right and follow a dirt track that continues straight on. Immediately, walk alongside the large estate overlooking the valley on the left and carry on until you cross the D983 again, a little further down.
Cross carefully and you’ll soon come across the Lavoir des Neuf Fontaines on your right.
(7) Turn left, facing the wash house, heading towards Les Ministres. Keep well to the right straight away, leaving the narrow path that heads straight on towards Les Combes d’Arches. The path turns eastwards and climbs in short, steep stretches through the limestone grasslands. Ignore several side paths before reaching, further up, the junction at La Croix des Coutres (a clearly visible wooden cross on the right).
(8) Carry on straight ahead between the hedges and keep to the left at the next two junctions. The path has levelled out and gradually joins theGR®® 76D at the La Cassine crossroads.
(9) Turn left, heading north, then carry on straight ahead at the next junction. A little further on, you’ll reach the Statue of the Virgin. Take a short detour to the right to reach the viewpoint and enjoy the panoramic view.
Return to theGR®® and continue northwards to the La Grande Roche crossroads.
(10) Take the road on the left and turn immediately right to stay on theGR®®. Carry on straight ahead at the next junction and, a little further on, you’ll reach another junction near La Croix de Saint-Morille.
(11) Keep to the left, still on theGR®®, before leaving it 300 metres further on to follow a path that veers to the right. After 200 metres downhill, leave this path at a hairpin bend to continue along the extension, over a wide grassy stretch, and very soon rejoin a narrower path.
Carry on without changing direction, then cross two wooden footbridges in succession, clinging to the rock face. Walk alongside a property before emerging a little further down onto the Chemin de la Vierge. Turn right for a few metres and rejoin the Rue du Bourg at the first junction.
(1) Turn left and follow Rue du Bourg – which you took on the way out – to return to the car park (S/E).
