Le Bossu from Avion

Start from the car park at Place Jacques Duclos in Avion.

(S/E) Head back up towards the bus stop, cross the road then turn right onto Rue René Lannoy. At the roundabout, turn left onto Rue Posadzy and go straight on to continue along Rue Nicolas Leblanc. Then stay on the path opposite at the second bend. Cross Square Victor Foulon. At the roundabout, turn left onto Rue de la Bastille and carry on straight ahead until you reach Rue Arthur Lamendin.

(1) Turn left and carry on straight ahead, skirting the sports grounds and the swimming pool. Pass La Gailette (the Racing Club de Lens training centre) and then turn left immediately afterwards. At the end of the road, after the steep slope, keep to the right and carry on straight ahead until you reach a junction.

(2) Carry on straight ahead through the wooded area until you reach Rue des Fusillés. Veer slightly to the right to cross at the pedestrian crossing, then continue until you reach a junction near a telecoms mast.

(3) Keep to the right, then carry on straight ahead until you reach Avenue du 10 Mars. Cut across this to join Rue de la Gare.

(4) Turn left, with the canteen on your left. Cross the footbridge and, at the bottom of the stairs, turn left until you reach the roundabout, which you should go round on the right.

(5) Take the second right towards the slag heap.

(6) Continue right again towards the care home until you reach some wooden steps on the left. Take these steps, then continue to the right to go all the way round the slag heap. Then take a right and a left to exit.

(6) Turn right to return to the roundabout.

(5) Turn right and head right again towards the Intermarché, taking Avenue Floha. Carry straight on until you reach the first green space on the left.

(7) Turn left onto the footpath and return to the junction by the mast.

(3) Carry on straight ahead, in the opposite direction to the way out.

(2) First turn right then left as you pass through the lovely woodland, then turn right to go round the housing estate.

(8) Turn left onto Rue de la Piscine to walk alongside the stadium on your right, continue along Rue Paul Vaillant Couturier and arrive at the car park after crossing the cemetery.

(9) Cross this small car park and take the path at the far end on the right, then turn left into the tube-shaped tunnel until you reach Rue Pierre Semard.

(10) Cross the road and head straight ahead onto Rue Constant Lequeux. Carry on straight ahead and go through the green gate to enter the park. Take the second path on the left (marked ‘trial’) and follow it to the steps.

(11) Follow it to the right to climb the slag heap in two stages. At the top, take in the view, then head back down via the path opposite and to the left. At the bottom, turn left until you reach a Fork in the road.

(12) Keep left on a gentle incline and walk alongside the fence overlooking the beach to return to the foot of the steps you climbed on the way up.

(11) Turn right at the fork and, after the bridge, turn left. First turn right then left towards the park exit, then cross the car park to reach your starting point (S/E) on the opposite side.
