Description of the walk

To get to the start from Sonnay, follow the D51, Route du Dauphiné, and look for Chemin des Carrières at the corner of No. 1535. Follow it, pass the hamlet of Les Carrières and park at the side of the road, before the forest exit.

(S/E) Continue along the Chemin des Carrières towards the hamlet of La Feytaz, and at the junction, turn left, heading due west, following theGR®®65. At the bend to the right, head straight on along the path that runs alongside the woodland before entering it.

(1) At the junction, follow theGR®®65straight ahead and reach the crossroads after skirting a field, at Croix Saint-Martin.

(2) Leave theGR®® and turn left, heading due south, to reach a hamlet.

(3) At the junction, go round the back of the building to the orientation table (or for a break, a table with benches), then take the path that descends south-east to the edge of the woodland. Take the path on the left, then head straight through the undergrowth until you reach a crossroads.

(4) Go straight ahead, continue straight on and ignore the first path branching off to the right. Carry on and return to the car park (S/E).

A very good walk, with a beautiful view from the orientation table (view of the Alps and the Massif Central: Pilat, etc.).
No difficulty walking. Be careful, however, as part of the route was inaccessible due to very large puddles (difficult to get around). This is surely due to recent rains.

Sorry, but whoever mapped out the route didn’t provide the correct parking information for the start of the walk, so walkers very often park in the farmer’s yard and get in the way of his work

Between the forest and the viewpoints, it was stunning with the autumn colours.
You definitely needed wellies, though, as there were a few muddy patches and quite a few branches, with paths winding around the obstacles. But that actually made it quite fun. Maybe not the most comfortable for your feet, but for an hour and a half with hardly any elevation gain, it’s just the ticket!

A peaceful route through the forest.
Following the storms, there were major difficulties between point 3 and the finish.
Two trees have fallen across the route.
Numerous puddles forced us to take the path through the undergrowth.
The end of the route felt more like an adventure course than a walk.
Very pleasant with our dog, in the shade.

Please note that
if it rains heavily for several days, the path through the Bois d'Arche becomes difficult to navigate as it is full of deep ruts.
You have to walk through the woods, which are littered with fallen branches.
Apart from that, a lovely walk.

A pleasant little walk to get some fresh air during these days of short daylight. Please note that the paths are very muddy after rain. Tip: park at point 3 in the car park by the information board, which has tables and toilets, as there is hardly any space at the junction with the Chemin des Carrières. Note: between 4 and S/E, in the middle of the forest, there is a grassy field where the path disappears; you must continue straight ahead to find the rest of the route – this was the only point where we got a bit lost.
