Start from the car park at La Planche resort.
(S/E) After passing the ticket office on your left and crossing the chalet’s ski lift, head left following the Green Rectangle (GR®533).
(1) After 200 metres, turn right following the Blue Triangle.
(2) Upon reaching the Étang des Belles Filles (a path on the left leads to the Ballon Saint-Antoine), head towards the other end of the lake to follow the Green Diamond.
(3) At the junction at a place called Vieil Étang, head right following the Green Rectangle. When you reach the next crossroads.
(4) Turn right, following the Red Triangle, to reach the Refuge de la Grande Goutte.
(5) Continue following the same markings. You’ll reach a fork in the path towards the Ballon d’Alsace.
(6) Take the left-hand path towards the Col du Stalon and the Ballon de Servance.
(7) When you reach the Col de Stalon, take the path opposite, marked with the Green Rectangle symbol. You will arrive at the Col du Luthier.
(8) Continue for about 200 metres before turning right onto the path with the same markings, which heads towards Saint-Maurice-sur-Moselle.
Shortly afterwards, you arrive at the Chalet du Luthier. Carry on just a little further to the viewpoint.
(9) Start the return journey to the starting point (S/E).
Return via the same route to the Col du Stalon (7). From there, take a forest track on your right. At a junction with another forest track, do not take the one that continues over a bridge, but the one that branches off to the left (10).
At the next junction, at a place called Le Plain des Bœufs (11), continue to the left. When you reach the junction with theGR®533(12), take the path branching off to the right. Follow the same route as on the way out to return to Vieil Étang (3). From there, continue following the same signposts on your right.
This takes us back to our starting point (E).
