Lautenbach-Zell, Hohrupf and Buhl

(S/E) From the car park at Lautenbach-Zell town hall, head up the main road to the junction with Rue du Wiederspach on the left. Follow this path marked with a Red Rectangle crossed out in a White Rectangle. Continue along the track that extends from it.

(1) Keep to the right, then take the hairpin bend to the right at the next junction.

(2) Turn left to reach the Col de Wolfsgrube (shelter and fountain, 672 m). An alternative route allows you to set off directly from the town hall, following the same ‘Red Rectangle with a White Cross’ markings.

(3) Take the path opposite, then the track on the left marked with a Yellow Triangle.

(4) Turn right at a 90° angle, then reach a hairpin junction.

(5) Turn left, then left again to reach the Hohrupf (813 m), where there are some remains of a castle.

(6) Head back down and follow the Yellow Triangle markings again. Turn right at the junction and return to the junction from the outward journey.

(5) Turn left and continue straight on at the crossroads.

(7) When you reach the track, head down to the right. At the wide path, turn left, then follow it downhill to the Col du Schrangen (shelter – 550 m).

(8) Take the Red Triangle path opposite. Continue along the descending path until it joins the forest track marked with the Blue Disc, leading to Saint-Barnabé (hotel-restaurant).

(9) Turn right. At the next Fork in the road, keep left onto the descending track. Leave this after about a hundred metres to take the descending path in the same direction. At the hairpin bend, turn right to reach the Pont Saint-Barnabé and the restaurant.

(10) Opposite the restaurant, turn sharply left onto the unmarked path running alongside a tennis court. Keep left as you pass over the cemetery on a path leading to the square in front of Buhl Church. You may wish to visit the church, which houses the three-panel altarpiece by the Schoengauer school (16th century).

(11) Turn left onto Rue du Schrangen (Red Triangle) to join the Blue Disc forest track.

(9) Turn right onto this Blue Disc-marked path.

(12) When you reach the junction with the Yellow Cross-marked path, head down this path to the right and walk past the Geffenthal ponds.

(13) Continue to the right. Pass the bridge on your right and head towards the junction marked by a cross.

(14) Turn left and then right to reach the town hall. Turn left towards the car park (S/E).
