Lauchernalp - Leukerbad (Rinderhütte)

For ease of description, the following symbols are used:
R sign: Yellow sign with hiker pictogram.
M sign: Red/white multi-directional sign on a yellow background (mountain path).
The start of this hike is at the Hotel Wildi in Lauchernalp.

(S) From the Hotel Wildi, exit via the east terrace. Join the path that descends towards the bottom of the resort until you reach an intersection.

(1) At the sign, follow the direction "Kummenalp". Descend to the hamlet of Hockenalp.

(2) As indicated on the sign, continue towards Kummenalp. Follow this balcony path, which offers views of the Weisshorn. After a short climb, you will arrive at Kummenalp.

(3) At the Gasthaus Kummenalp, turn left onto the track towards Restialp. Follow this track downhill to a junction.

(4) At the sign for Restialp, take the track on the right. Climb gradually towards the Resti mountain pasture.

(5) At the sign at the entrance to the hamlet, which consists of several chalets including a restaurant, head towards Restipass and Leukerbad. Pass the restaurant and a fountain and begin the long but pleasant climb up Restipass.

(6) At the pass, enjoy one last view of the Lötschental from the Jungfrau to the Aletschhorn. Begin the descent from the Restipass and climb back up to the small Wysse See lake.

(7) At the lake, follow the sign for Leukerbad Rinderhütte. Continue to a small unnamed pass at an altitude of 2,397 metres.

(8) Turn right onto a nearly flat trail and continue to the Rinderhütte, the upper station of the Leukerbad cable car (E).

Take the cable car down to Leukerbad. (Last descent at 4.30pm).

• Rinderhüte cable car - Leukerbad: CHF 16 (summer 2024) - last descent at 4.30pm.
• Accommodation in Leukerbad: Hotel Römerhof
• Transport: Return to the valley by bus 471 (2 per hour) Leukerbad - Leuk Bahnhof. In Leuk, there are numerous trains to Sierre or Brig.
