Coming by car from Arvieux on the D902, pass through the villages of La Chalp, Brunissard and La Draye, then start the climb towards the Col d'Izoard and stop at the Casse Déserte car park after the series of hairpin bends.
(S/E) Take the well-marked path opposite the car park. The first thousand metres are under the trees and then across the meadow to the lake.
(1) Please note that 300 metres after leaving the forest, you will need to take the path slightly to the left (theGR®®58descends to the village of Souliers on the right) and climb up through Le Vallon.
(2) Leaving the car park at around 10 a.m. (which is no great feat...), you will enjoy stopping at the edge of Lake Souliers for a snack.
Before or after your snack, you can climb a little further south-southeast to the Tronchet ridge.
(3) Enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains, the Souliers valley and the Queyras, which is superb as always when you gain a little height.
The return journey will follow the same path used to ascend, back to the starting point (S/E).
