Port de Balès car park (1,755m).
(S/E) Head west towards Mont Né along the small path that runs alongside the road for about a hundred metres, then heads towards the Mont Né Refuge.
After a few minutes, join the sheep track leading to the refuge (this track is in poor condition and is reserved for shepherds’ vehicles). Follow this track to the Mont Né Refuge.
(1) Continue along theGRP®® to the Port de Pierrefite (1,857 m).
(2) At Port de Pierrefite, you can see the Cromlech overlooking the Oueil valley below. Continue, still following theGRP®® towards Lac de Bordères (de Bareilles). You must cross the livestock fence that marks the “border” between Haute-Garonne and the Hautes-Pyrénées. There is an open passage for walkers.
Then head down towards Lac de Bordères (de Bareilles) along a narrow path.
After about 500 m, the path becomes harder to follow; although marked, it has been eroded into the steep slope, over schist rocks that can be slippery. You must take great care where you place your feet to avoid slipping. This tricky section lasts only about fifty metres, after which the path becomes easy again, continuing downhill towards the lake, before climbing slightly on the final stretch of the route.
(3) You emerge at the lake with its crystal-clear, turquoise waters when it is in the sun. In summer, you may come across horses roaming freely who come here to drink.
The return journey follows the same route back to the Port de Balès car park (S/E).
