Description of the walk

In Mittlach, park in the car park next to the bridge over the Fecht, Rue Erbersch.

(S/E) Cross the bridge and walk up Rue Erbersch.

(1) Go up Chemin du Koepfle on the right towards Kastelberg (blue triangle markings) and shortly afterwards turn left. Cross the Kastelbergwasenrunz stream three times and you will reach a T-junction.

(2) Take the path on the right towards Kerbholz and walk for about 150 m.

(3) Turn left onto the path marked with a blue cross. At the left-hand bend, leave the path and continue straight ahead on the path marked with a blue cross.

(4) Shortly afterwards, turn left and follow the markings to Kerbholz: a beautiful viewpoint over the Hohneck and an ideal spot for a picnic.

(5) Continue along the path towards Altenweiher, following the blue cross markings. Cross Chemin de Mittlach and then the scree slopes. At the fork just before the lake, continue straight ahead and then turn immediately right onto the path to reach the dam.

(6) Walk around the lake in either direction and return to the dam.

(6) Set off again along the Yellow Cross trail, which runs alongside the Altenweiherbach stream.

(7) Keep right at the fork, cross a path twice and continue to the junction with a wider forest path near the Kolben fir tree.

(8) Turn right onto this path, then right again onto the road. Cross the Kolbenfecht (stream).

(9) About 20 metres after the bridge, take the path on the left marked with a blue cross. Then turn left to cross the bridge over the Wiedenbachunz and descend the grassy path that runs alongside the Altenweiherbach stream.

(10) At the crossroads, take the path on the right towards the Lourdes cave.

(11) At the grotto, climb the stairs on the right and then take the path on the left. Then turn right and climb up to the Rocher du Kiwi: beautiful view of Mittlach and Metzeral.

(12) Turn back.

(10) Continue along the path opposite. Cross the bridge and go down Rue Erbrecht on the right. Cross the bridge at the end of the street and return to the car park (S/E).
