Description of the walk

Start at the Aqualudique centre on Place Hector Vincent.

(S/E) After the footbridge over the Vègre, follow the “Prés Marais botanical trail”. This takes the road on the right before turning 180° onto a path on the left, then makes another almost complete U-turn to the right. You’ll emerge onto a wide path; take this to the right – it’s theGR®365, marked in red and white.

(1) At the houses of La Petite Chevalerie, first turn left then right on the road to rejoin the path heading towards the motorway. Follow the motorway until you reach a road, turn right leaving theGR® to discover the Mill and the Château de Coulennes, a 17th-century manor house. Continue along the road to a wayside cross after Le Perrin.

(2) Take the path on the right, where you’ll enjoy a lovely view of the meandering Vègre. Cross a small road and continue straight ahead to the D21.

(3) Take the D21 on the right for 800m, then turn left onto the old tram line. On the right, on the other side of the Vègre, you can see the trench dug for the tram line.
Take the road on the left until you reach a junction (silo), where you should turn right.

(4) After 500m, take the path on the right which will lead you back towards the centre of Loué. First turn right then left into Rue de Guimondeau, then, at the end of the cul-de-sac, turn left onto the path. Continue along the street as it continues, then cross the D81 to carry on opposite along the D101.

(5) After the hamlet of La Touzelière, turn right towards the Marais de Barigné and its spawning grounds. Follow the Vègre before returning to the D101, which you should take on the right. Pass the Barigné mill. Do not turn right at the next junction but continue to a Y-junction where you should continue straight ahead.

(6) Take the path leading down to the right to reach the Courteille mill. Join a road and turn right. Cross the two branches of the Vègre river, then turn left onto the D21.

(7) Before the bridge, turn right and rejoin theGR®365, which passes under the old Sablé/Sillé railway line. Turn right immediately after this and follow the path which turns 90° to the left before joining another path to follow on the right.

(8) At the cemetery, take the small road on the right to reach the town hall of Mareil-en-Champagne. Turn left before reaching it, then, when the street splits, stay on the left-hand side, which quickly turns into a path. Follow it until you reach the D21 at a place called La Grange. Follow the D21 to the left for 200m before leaving it and taking a small road that runs alongside it on the left.

(9) At the roundabout, rejoin the D21 on the left to head back into town. Follow it across the Vègre, turn left just after the bridge, then left again as soon as possible to return to the Aqualudique centre and the starting point (S/E).

Not too bad, but at times it leads you down the wrong path.

A very pleasant walk along the La Vagère (sunny and 15°C today).
Please note:
- a few bumps and slippery descents in wet weather
- the signposting needs updating in some places

Beautiful windmills and mosquitoes by the Vègre (marshes)
I couldn’t find my way after the viaduct on the right, at the top of the 90° bend (couldn’t find it), so I didn’t pass the cemetery
However, it is possible to return to Loué via the pedestrian-safe route
A pleasant walk

Fortunately, the route was straightforward, as it wasn’t very well signposted
The Vegre river is barely visible along the route. Having done a lot of mountain biking in this area, I was really left wanting more.
“The walk follows a GR and a PR.” Sometimes it’s a bit hit-and-miss.
“You are the only hiker to have given these ratings.” I’m not criticising the hike; I’m simply stating a fact.
And if you read the reviews, they differ little from my own assessment, even if they’re rated ‘very good, good and good’???

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

For your information:

By "Route on map", we mean assessing the accuracy of the route as shown on the map against the actual terrain.
Did the route cause any problems?
Did you follow the route using a GPS device or a GPS app?
Did you notice any discrepancies compared to the route of the hike?

You rated:

Reliability of the description: Average
Reliability of the route on the map: Average

I am surprised by these ratings for three reasons:

1. The walk follows a GR and a PR.
2. The route (50m zoom) follows the paths and tracks.
3. You are the only hiker to have given these ratings.

Kind regards

Reliability of the description : ★★★☆☆ Average
Ease of following the route : ★★★☆☆ Average
Route interest : ★★☆☆☆ Disappointing

The first part of the route isn’t very interesting, with lots of busy roads
The second part, after the Barigne mill (6), is more interesting. It’s a shame the route ends so soon after that.
Note: the magnificent cemetery at Mareil-en-Champagne is well worth a detour
This route, named after the Vegre, is often quite far from the river itself. You’re left feeling a bit ‘hungry’

We didn’t like this walk at all; part of it is on tarmac. You end up walking alongside the motorway more than the river...
The surrounding countryside lacks charm. The Aveyron? Really?
We wouldn’t recommend it.

Stunning scenery – it’s a shame the motorway runs right alongside the route for a short stretch of the walk. The road noise is very noticeable too – those pesky cars, grrr! But apart from that, we discovered some absolutely lovely spots where you’d think you were in the Aveyron!

A pleasant and interesting route. There were a few minor issues with the directions at the start and when crossing Loué. But nothing too serious.
Thank you for posting this lovely walk online.
We did it in 3 hours and 50 minutes too
