The Douron Valley

Discover the banks of the Douron, the coastal river that separates the Côtes d'Armor and Finistère departments. Right from the start, you will have to cross a pass: the Col de Saint-Haran (24 metres!), as indicated on the sign at the top. You will cross into a different department when you cross the bridge next to the Moulin de Moualhic, and again at Pont Menou.

Description of the walk

Park in the Toul an Héry car park (Toull ar C'hirri on the map).

(S/E) Head west along the shore.

(1) Turn left onto the road leading to Moulin de Rochelan. Just before the mill, turn right, then left onto the path running alongside the Douron. You will soon reach the Col de Saint-Haran. Continue to the right, following the small coastal river.

(2) At the wash house on the left, continue right along the riverbank until you reach a road. Follow this road to the right. Pass Moulin de Moualhic and, at the intersection, continue right towards Le Rabat.
Continue along the road to Ty Nec'h.

(3) Continue left and then left again 100 metres further on. Leave the hamlet of Pluscaouen on your left and continue in the same direction towards the south. Ignore a path on the right and continue straight ahead to reach Quélumec.

(4) When the road bends to the right, take the path on the left. It joins another, larger path, which you should follow to the right. It becomes a road as you approach some houses. Continue to the right.

(5) When you reach Pont Menou, take a sharp left turn to reach the chapel. Continue almost straight ahead and cross the Douron.

(6) Follow the path on the left that runs alongside the stream. Continue along this path, which is theGR®34D.

(7) Take a sharp right onto the forest path that climbs towards Kerourien. In front of the house, turn left and you will come to a road on a bend. Continue on the right.

(8) Continue to the right and then immediately turn left. At the crossroads at Ty Losquet, take the path on the right and then the first left, heading due north. Continue on this path as it veers north-east. Ignore the first road on the right.

(9) At Coz Venac'h, continue to the left. Ignore three side roads on the left. Take the fourth road on the left towards Kéraliou. Continue straight ahead on the path that leads to the riverbank.

(1) Turn right to return to the car park (S/E).

Fog then drizzle.
A lovely walk at low tide despite the weather, which meant we didn't meet anyone and saw lots of birds along the Douron.
Bring good binoculars.
Between 7 and 8, take the PR path that goes around the field; the path leading to the field is overgrown and the path in the field no longer exists.
Thank you for the route.

A beautiful walk along wooded paths, with very little traffic on the road.
Be careful not to miss the path on the left after crossing Pont Menou, which takes you back along the river.
There are many opportunities to extend the route along the paths that border the fields on the Plestin side.

Hello,
A beautiful hike, especially along the Douron, with opportunities to see birds. Be careful, shortly after point 8, Ty Losquet, the trail is difficult to follow as the field has been ploughed right up to the edge of the trees (especially if you take the path in the opposite direction to that suggested in the guide, as I wanted to walk along the Douron in the late afternoon). The route on the map and GPS are accurate enough to follow. It is best to wear good shoes as the paths can be muddy after rain and some sections along the river are a little difficult for people who are not very mobile. Otherwise, nothing to report, very pleasant hike.

A very pleasant walk to do early in the morning or late afternoon to see more birds along the Douron, taking your time. An alternative route is possible along the left bank, in the countryside, via the GRP tour of the Morlaix region, but the path was not clear at Pentecost (brambles, nettles, etc.).
