Description of the route

Park in the resort car parks.

(S/E) With your back to the Maison des Cycles, turn right towards the lake. Continue along the lake, passing under the mini golf course.

(1) Then turn right and follow the lake shore towards the pedal boats, going around the centre of the resort with its water sports complex (swimming pool) until you reach a fork in the road.

(2) Turn right and continue along the lake, passing the weir and the bird observatory. Leave the resort and you will come to a fork.

(3) Cross carefully (Rue du Touvent, D83) and turn right, then quickly left onto the stony path (which can be muddy in wet weather). At the top, at the road (Rue du Grand Rieux), go up to the left to an oratory.

(4) Pay attention, as a narrow path branches off to the right at the corner of a house and descends between the hedges. Back on the road (Rue du Grand Rieux), go down it and take the first street on the left, Chemin du Petit Moulin. Walk along the pond and then go up the path on the right. After the houses, pass under the foliage and come out onto an open space. Leave the Tour du Val Joly route, which branches off to the right, and continue straight on towards the road.

(5) At the crossroads (Rue Là-Haut, D119), near the small chapel, go up to the left and take care to take thefirst path on the right, between two pastures, a few metres after Chemin du Strohaut, on the left. This narrow path winds through the woods, crosses a stream, runs alongside the Trou Colette (small pond) and climbs up to the left towards a road. Take this road to the left (Rue de la Fontaine) until you reach a fork (Chemin d'Irlande).

(6) Turn right, pass the farm and, at the right-hand bend, leave the road and take a path into the woods. The path winds downhill and turns left, following the stream that marks the border. Take the footbridge and climb back up into the woods on the Belgian side, following the path and markings that branch off to the left and lead to the crossroad (Rue Lobet).

(7) Turn left, pass a farm and take the left-hand bend. Leave Rue du Canivet on your right and continue straight ahead until the next junction. Continue to the right (Chemin du Vivier, D119) and climb up to the metal cross on your left, about 50 metres before the crossroads.

(8) Turn right onto a forest path marked by a barrier. Follow the main path and the signposts. You will often be on the edge of the forest, with views of the pastures on your left. Several wooden walkways will help you avoid the wettest areas. The path leads to a clearing with buildings and arrives at a road.

(9) Turn right (Rue de la Borne) then, at the fork, continue left (Rue Canivet) towards the houses until you reach the next crossroads.

(10) Turn left into a cul-de-sac and, at the farm, turn right onto the path that enters the woods. This path goes straight up, so stay on it. At the Pierre qui Tourne crossroads, turn left onto Rue de France and continue to the next junction.

(11) Leave the road at Rue de la Borne and take a grassy path on the right. The route follows the Sentier Pédagogique du Bois des Bruyères (Bois des Bruyères Educational Trail) and descends towards a property. After the barrier, turn left and follow the Véloroute des Lacs (Lakes Cycle Route). The path turns right and joins a street (Rue des Bruyères). At the end, turn left (Rue de Montjumont) and, at the three-way junction between the houses (Rue de la Haye), leave the Véloroute and continue straight ahead (Chemin du Vivier) towards Eppe-Sauvage, until you reach the edge of the woods.

(12) There are five directions to choose from. Leave the road and turn right onto a forest path marked by a barrier. Be careful to keep to the right, as the path starts at the edge of the forest (a bridle path may confuse you by taking you into the heart of the forest). Follow the markings, decking and footbridges. The path leads to a tree-lined lane which, after a right-left turn, takes you back to the Route de la Louvière and the Véloroute des Lacs cycle route.

(13) Take this road, which connects Eppe Sauvage to Sivry Rance, turning left as you enter the forest. Continue along this road until you reach a forest path near the border, where you will see information boards.

(14) Leave the main lane and the Véloroute, taking a forest track on the right, behind a barrier. This track is lined with high chairs used for hunting and continues with a staircase for walkers and a fairly steep side slope, which should be taken with caution. Cross the Ruisseau de l'Ermitage stream via the footbridge and turn left. At a marshy pond, turn right. The path climbs back up into the forest along a wide dirt track, which can be muddy in wet weather, until it rejoins the road (Rue de la Loripette).

(15) After the barrier, take the path to the left of the house. The route descends to the edge of the forest via a sunken path, which may be wet. At the end, there is a public picnic area. Continue straight ahead, passing the barrier that prevents motor vehicles from entering. The path descends and runs alongside the campsite, coming out at the entrance to the campsite on the road. Turn left (Rue du Touvent, D83) on the French side. Take the first street on the right, Chemin de Nostrimont, and at the end, carefully cross the road (D133bis) and enter the Val-Joly resort.

(16) At the equestrian centre, leave the road and turn right onto the path in the small wood, following the left-hand path that winds between the road and the tree-climbing area. Pass the kiosk and continue straight ahead. The path joins the road via a quiet path running alongside the laser tag area and descends towards the small Lac du Fond d'Amour.

(1) Pass by the lake and continue to the Maison des Cycles bike hire shop at ValJoly station, staying on the dedicated path. Be courteous and adjust your speed to match that of the pedestrians sharing the path (S/E).
