Starting point: Villers Bettnach Abbey.
From Vigy, follow the D52 to Saint-Hubert. Turn left and continue on the D52 to Villers Bettnach Abbey.
Park in the small car park on the right, near the sign describing the routes.
Yellow markings and directional signs, route no. 2 (Charlemagne’s Spring).
(S/E) Follow the road, keeping the abbey on your left.
(1) Leave the D52 by turning right onto the forest track. You’ll pass near the Étang des Moines (on your right), where there’s a table and two benches by the pond.
(2) Leave the forest road by turning right (crossing a stream) and follow a path to the left – which is narrow in places – leading to the Fontaine du Loup (unfortunately the spring has run dry, but it’s an ideal spot for a break, with a table and bench).
(3) Fontaine du Loup (unfortunately, following a major landslide, the spring is no longer flowing). Return to the previous junction and turn left. Then continue along the track.
(4) At the junction near the D3, leave the forest road by turning right onto a track known as “La Haie du Tremble”.
If you go straight on, you can link up with Circular Loop No. 1, La Voie de 60.
Follow the signs for Rabas (signpost) along the Chemin de La Haie du Tremble.
'' You can turn left to join Circular Loop No. 7, ‘Le Chemin des Écoliers’. This is a 3.8 km link.
(5) Pass the Forest Ranger’s House on your right and continue straight ahead along the small path skirting the edge of the woodland.
(6) At the junction with the forest road, turn right to head down towards Befey. (This is a rutted track; proceed with caution.) Continue straight on to cross through Befey.
(7) Leave the road as you exit Befey by turning right towards Source Charlemagne.
You can fill up with water here; it is safe to drink and the locals stock up on it in large jerrycans and containers!
Carry on along the path that runs alongside the road to the left of the fountain
(8) To visit the Rabas Chapel, cross the road and then return to the path. Continue towards Saint-Hubert until you reach the road linking Befey to Saint-Hubert.
On the left, as you pass the chapel, you can join Circular Loop No. 4, the Chemin de la Reine (towards Pré Guérez). This is a 1.4 km link.
(9) In Saint-Hubert, leave the main road by turning right onto the Chemin des Gros Trembles. This path runs between two steep embankments known as “Le Canyon” and climbs towards “La Femme Morte”
Follow the yellow markings carefully, as at one point you’ll need to leave the path on the left and head towards a forest track at a place known as “Femme Morte”
(10) Turn left onto the forest track known as the “Femme Morte” descent.
(11) At the road, turn right onto the D52 and follow it to Villers-Bettnach Abbey (S/E).
