From Château-Gombert, take Chemin de Palama. Pass two equestrian centres and park at the end of the road in thefirst car park on the left just before Chemin Martin.
(S/E) Walk down the road for about 50 metres, then turn left at the barrier onto the discovery trail. Look for an old well on the right below. Please note that access is difficult due to brambles, bushes and roots.
Best avoided. Further on, on the left, is thesecond well. Follow the path that runs alongside the ruins of an old sheepfold.
(1) Turn left onto the path that leads into the valley. Continue straight ahead, crossing a few rocks.
(2) Turn left to rejoin the DFCI track higher up. Use GPS as the route shown on IGN maps does not exist. Turn left onto the DFCI track and follow it to a crossroads.
(3) Turn right, heading north-west towards the Grande Étoile.
(4) Turn left at cistern no. 402 (elevation 448) to descend a rocky path.
(5) Turn right (elevation 332) and descend into the valley. On the way up the other side, you will see thethird well (or lime kiln, given its size). Join a track and turn left. Further down, keep to the left on a tarmac section that climbs and passes by the old Loubière caves, whose entrance is blocked by large rocks.
(6) Turn left at a bare patch of ground and head north-northwest towards a small copse. Pass to the left of the copse. You will need a GPS to find thefourth well or manhole, as it is located just above the large chamber of the Loubière Caves, which was filled with water. Continue along the route and ignore the paths to the left and right.
You will arrive in a wooded area with tall pine trees (elevation 261). Cross this area, staying on the right-hand side. On the right, locate thefifth well.
(7) Take the path that goes straight ahead (north) right next to the well. This path passes by a rainwater retention basin, then enters the heath. Pass by some ruins, then look for thesixth well under the trees on the right at the bottom of the valley. Continue along the route until you reach a T-junction. Turn right and continue to elevation 294.
(8) Turn left to join a DFCI track further up, which you should follow to the left.
(9) Turn right onto the wide path that leads to a fire station. At the station, descend into the valley to discover the seventh well, which is huge and still filled with water. Turn back and at the fork, about 50 m before the point (9), follow the small path on the right that runs along the track below. Look for the eighth well with its distinctive roof. When you reach a fork, turn completely right to cross over to the other side. Ignore the first path that branches off to the left.
(10) Turn left at the second path. After a large circular loop, you will discover the old lime kiln installations hidden in the bushes. Further on, you will see the quarry and a kiln in the rock. Return to the track to the north-northeast and turn left.
(11) At the junction with another track, keep to the right. You will arrive at Chemin Martin and reach the car park (S/E).
