Description of the walk

From Château-Gombert, take Chemin de Palama. Pass two equestrian centres and park at the end of the road in thesecond car park on the left after Chemin Martin.

(S/E) Set off along Chemin de l'Étoile, heading north-west. Go through the barrier prohibiting vehicle access.

(1) Take thefirst path on the left, which joins a track (end of Chemin Martin). Keep to the right. The track then descends southwards.

(2) Turn right and pass fire hydrant no. 560. After a few bends, pass fire hydrant no. 404 on your left. The track descends and is partly concrete.

(3) Continue to the right at fire hydrant no. 403.

(4) Turn left at the hairpin bend. After a concrete section, you will arrive at a large open area with large rock faces on the left. You will arrive at a crossroads.

(5) Turn right onto the old Grottes Loubière road.

(6) Turn completely left onto the track that climbs southwards and joins the Sentier Botanique de la Batarelle.

(7) Turn right, heading north. You will arrive at fire hydrant no. 401.

(8) Turn right at the fire hydrant, then after 100 m, turn left at the T-junction. Ignore the paths on the left and right. You will see several tracks and tarmac roads.

(9) Turn right onto thefirst track, heading north-east with the Grande Étoile in your sights. The track climbs and turns to reach fire hydrant no. 402 (altitude 448). From this point, the track descends to the end of the route. Arrive at Chemin de l'Étoile, pass the barrier and return to the car park (S/E).

An easy hike, you don't even really climb to the top of the large star. But there are some beautiful views of Marseille harbour, the islands and the Dol valley.

An easy walk despite the climb up to cistern 402, which is indeed a bit long, as other reviews have mentioned. Can be done at a leisurely jogging pace.

Although the hike is easy, it is worth mentioning that there is a rather long climb, which for us came after our picnic! Could we consider doing this route in the opposite direction?

The route is fairly easy, but a map or GPS may be useful as the paths are not marked.
The main attraction of this hike is the magnificent views of the city of Marseille, the harbour and the surrounding hills.
Avoid when the mistral wind is blowing.

A lovely, easy route, wooded at the start and then open on the way back, with superb views of Marseille.
Easy route completed by around ten people.

We followed the route without any problems using only a satnav.
We couldn't enjoy the view because the weather was foggy. But it was still very pleasant.
The route is easy and we enjoyed it.
Thank you for this wonderful experience.

ONLY ONE PROBLEM. THE ROUTE IS NOT MARKED AND, GIVEN THE NUMBER OF TRACKS AND PATHS, IT IS ALMOST ESSENTIAL TO HAVE A GPS. OTHERWISE, IT IS A BEAUTIFUL HIKE WITH MAGNIFICENT VIEWS OF MARSEILLE AND THE ISLANDS. MAYBE NOT SUITABLE IN STRONG WINDS.
