La Roche Blanche de Châtelblanc

Through woodlands, forests and pastures, discoverthe Belvédère de la Roche Blanche, which rises to 1,013 metres, and admire the magnificent view of the Val de Mouthe (Doubs) on one side and the Val de Foncine (Jura) on the other.

Description of the walk

Access: from Mouthe, take the D437 towards Morez and Chapelle-des-Bois. At Chaux-Neuve, continue on the D437 until Châtelblanc. Turn left onto Rue du Chalet to reach the starting car park: Rue du Chalet, Châtelblanc.

Yellow and blue signposts

(S/E) Immediately take the path on the right (small footbridge) that climbs up through the meadow. At the top, turn right and follow the markings to the summit of Roche Blanche.

(1) Admire the view and continue your walk down a pleasant path winding through the forest. You will come to a small tarmac road.

(2) Follow it to the left.

(3) Before turning left, go back down to the right, cross the Ruisseau Bief Brideau stream and take a small path on the right behind the picnic table leading to the Cascade du Bief waterfall.

(4) Return to the road.

(3) Turn right onto the small marked path that climbs steeply through the meadow.

(5) Turn right onto the white path and continue for about 500 m. Pass two picnic tables. At the small paved road, turn left and descend towards Châtelblanc and the car park (S/E).

Notes

The trail is mostly exposed to the sun. Avoid during hot weather.

The Cascade du Bief waterfall is quite difficult to access. You reach it from above and then follow the steep path that descends further down to see it (take care).

Worth a visit

Belvédère de la Roche Blanche: overlooking the village of Châtelblanc at an altitude of 1,013 metres, the Belvédère de la Roche Blanche offers a sweeping view of the Val de Mouthe to the north and the upper Saine valley and isolated farms bordering the Haute-Joux forest to the south.
